Hello everyone. My name.. the name I want, is Mika. I'm pretty sure that I am a girl. I just wish I had figured that out a bit sooner. I want to start transition so I can start calling myself mika in the real world. I'm 31, and looking around for a gender therapist in my area that takes my insurance. Once I have that, I think I want to be the girl I always should have been. But I am scared, and I have my doubts. But the more I have pushed myself into doing small feminine things, the further I've wanted to take this.

Hi Mika 🙋♀️ Welcome to Susan's Place! I'm Jessica, a transgender woman. If you didn't have some fear involved with this ..... you wouldn't be normal. Seeing a gender therapist is the first best thing you can do for yourself. I'm glad your looking. If you think you are female you absolutely owe it to yourself to explore that and find the true you.
I see your new here, so I'll post some links that may help you get better acquainted with the site.

Hello, Mika.
I agree with the previous statement by Jessica that gender therapy is something you should seek out. "Gender therapy" is a little of a....misnomer since you can technically see any therapist about your gender identity but a therapist specializing in transgender patients or LGBT patients would be very beneficial.
I'm sending you well-wishes into your journey with gender and also this site. I'm fairly new to Susan's Place as well; I'm a long-time lurker however.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. There is a therapist I've found that says they specialize in helping LGBT and transgender explore their identities. Her open time slot might ne difficult to work with though. I tried an online one once for a week as a free trial, and while the therapist seemed amazing and the format was very freeing for me, i couldn't afford to keep it. I'll see how it goes with the in person therapist!

Nice to meet you hun, & dont worry. I started hrt at 28. & i kinda looked less like a woman, & more like a Neanderthal>.< but if you stay healthy & take your transition seriously, its amazing how much you can change. Im gonna post sum before/after pics in the gallery eventually but, i Never thought id pass so well as i do (not as well as youd think), or at all.
Dont get discouraged. Youll hear all kinds of sh't about how "its too late for certain things after a certain age"
Dont believe it! (The human body's an amazing thing, & males & females are mostly identical minus the hormones & sex organs that make em)
If I can get to where I look/sound like this & get around this well, anyone can.
The healthier you are, the better/faster it goes imo.

Thanks Allie, that does make me feel a bit better. Although my health is something I should be working on as well. As i am quite a bit overweight.

Hi Mika,
I started down my transition journey about 2 months ago at the age of 41. I was 320 pounds (just a little overweight). I plan on starting hrt when I hit around 225 (15% body fat which would be good for a male) and so far I am down to about 268. Don't let being overweight get in the way if you don't want it to. It's never too late if...if you set your mind to it, you can do it!

Everyone has doubts, pain, and struggles in general.
You can do this!
Just reflect and if its what you truly want you can be happy!
I came out at 17 to my school and friends....
After persecution and a failing relationship i went back into the closet...
I shuddered under the fear and the hate...
I gave in saying "i gotta grow up. I gotta be a man"
Even at your age people will claw into you.
Im now 27....
Just realizing i gave up on a dream a lost part of me....
I always role played as female in d&d or chose the female options in games...
Id look in the mirror with hate and resentment...
Im just opening the closet myself...
You are not alone and you can do this!
Dont look back!
But if ur truly afraid if ur doubt is that big that it quaffs the pain...
Do you gurl!
No matter what someone is there to support your decision!

Hello Mika!
I can relate as I just came out at 33 after years of denial and doubts.
You couldn't be at a better place than Susan's.
A gender therapist will be helpful.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Everyone has been so kind here so far. I really appreciate it. I'm starting to feel a lot better about this aspect of myself. I am a girl. That feels absolutely wonderful to say with less fear behind it. Being called Mika feels great too, making me more certain I've chosen the right name for myself. I'm still working on getting a therapist, but I'm having to figure it out between my insurance, how close they are, and my schedule constraints.
