Title: Patch problems
Post by: Mountain Warfare Girl on February 27, 2018, 07:18:06 AM
Is there a trick to using the dot patches ? I started HRT on Friday using patches and I can't get them to stay on o put one on my abdomen below my belly button to the right side and it didn't even last a day then I put one on the upper part of my but and it started peeling after a short time (maybe do to me having the seat heater on on my ride to work ?)  how do you all keep them on ?

You should stick them on your buttocks, they absorb better there.
I just put some tape over them. Never had one coming off.
Scrotum is also a very effective site to stick my patches for me.

If you hate patches and develop a rash from them, you can ask for gel at your next appointment.

Mylan is a generic patch, it's not real Estradot / Vivelle Dot.

I have a different brand and they stick very well. I leave mine on for three more days when I apply a new one.

Call your doctor for advice on the patch. They are horrible little things for some people and magic for others.

I also would advise you to remove the picture. They have rules about not mentioning dosages on this website.

All this is likely to do is cause wonky levels - estrogen patches are not designed for scrotal skin.

I was on patches for a while, and I found that if you wipe the area with alcohol and let it dry prior to applying they usually stick much better. There is also I special kind of tape (I can't remember the name) that can be applied over the patch to help it stick. Also as mentioned the brand can make a huge difference.

My understanding is that the patches should be applied to an area with fat underneath.

I started with Mylan, then switched to Sandoz (generic Vivelle) after the first month when I had to switch to mail-order. Even after heavy exercise when I was dripping with sweat, and the required shower after, I never had a patch loosen or come off. I always made sure there was no hair in the way and cleaned the area with an alcohol patch before applying.

Tegraderm, that is what it was. Glad that is working for you, I could not remember the name of it in my earlier post so glad you are trying it.

Its funny this is the most recent topic in the HRT forum!  This is exactly the same reason why I came onto the site tonight.  I just can not get these patches to work for me.  I have been on pills for the past six months, which has been super convenient, however my E levels peeked out at 216 or so.  My Dr. said that patches should boost my E up to 3-400.  I was really hesitant about using them because I have used nicotine patches before and did not like using them.  I should have listened to my intuition.  I am using 2 Climara patches twice per week.  Not only are they coming off easily and before I am supposed to change them but they are ridiculously expensive.  I have wasted so much money with them coming off already and I just stared using them.  I do not like the red blotches they leave either.  All of this is kinda bumming me out...  I will be calling my doctor on Monday and see if I can switch back to the pill. If my dose can not be raised I will probably just start getting injections.  Thank you for starting this topic Mountain Warfare Girl
