Title: Misses versus Juniors
Post by: Renate on December 20, 2007, 07:40:18 PM
Juniors (the odd numbers) although nesting in the series of Misses (the even number), are generally cut differently.
I've asked some skinny adult women friends of mine and they say that they wear Juniors.
Some of the problems are that the selection in Juniors is much smaller and the style is often too juvenile.

Any thoughts on the great divide between Misses and Juniors?

Just a thought I had about clothing choices.  I think that one of the most obvious giveaways is when a TG is wearing clothes that don't fit their age group and also ultra fem.  You have to dress like people your age to blend in.  Also me being in MT I always wear jeans.  Even real girls get looks when wearing dresses, its just not that common.  Seriously, do some people watching and look for what other people your age are wearing.  I know that is totally conformist, but seriously I don't want people picking me out of a crowd as trans.

LOL yeah totally
"down with the high waisted pants"
and speaking of low rise pants i am thinking about getting a tribal butterfly tattoo on my lower back.  I just cant seem to find the perfect design, however.

No seriously this is Montucky I don't want to be obvious.  All it takes is one drunken cowboy and his buddies to end it all so I try to be carefull.  Although I think I pass well enough that if anything people aren't sure one way or another if Im M or F so I think most err on the side of caution and refer to me as female.

A younger friend of mine pointed out that some people associate lower back tatoos as trashy...just a forewarning if you decide to put the permanent ink there.  I'm not trying to judge, just pointing something out.  I never knew this before she told me.

My waist is so high I don't think they make pants that long for women.
Plus I've got a 35.5 inch inseem.

I wear hip huggers to prevent my legs looking 10 km long.

I wear size 5-7 (I've even been able to fit in a size 3!!!).

You could wear size 5 Audrey?
Size 5 have 26 inch waist and 36 inch hips, no males I've ever known has both,
though a few 0.5% have the 26 inch waist.

Be carefull not to gain to much weight in the middle, because
past a certain point too much middle fat
prevents estrogen from putting fat in the right
place  (metabolic syndrome). Fat then all goes
to the middle and your Waist to hip ratio gets shot
(like it does for all overweight women); large hips with
large waist.

With HRT I went from 39 inch hips, 31 inch waist (size 10-11) to
37 inch hips, 26.6 inch waist, 5-7.

Well, let's keep in mind that juniors sizes are odd numbers and misses are even. For example, I am a juniors size 7 and a misses 6 or 8.   :P

The cut is very different in Juniors, since women at that age have less fat in the lower body in general, even at about the same size (size 6 vs size 7), the thigh of the pant is usually smaller and the way the buttock is cut is often different, the fall to the buttocks
is just bellow the pant's waist (buttocks with more muscles and not as low)
while its a bit lower with misses.

I couldn't fit juniors initially because my thighs were so incredibly muscular.

That's why those of us who have less padding than we would like back there should try Juniors' sizes as well.

I've had good luck lately with a size 5.

Are Juniors actually cut radically different than halfway between the adjacent Misses sizes?
Is there a compelling reason to buy Juniors over Misses?
For those who like Juniors, how do you find something that doesn't look like you escaped out of junior high?

For the first question, I found no difference in the case of skirts. Regarding short pants, I prefer juniors because I am rather childish. Short pants for misses seem to be too conservative. For plain trousers, the hip volume of misses is too large, making me look funny (a merit is that it prevents skin problems in the hip).

For the 2nd question, juniors are usally less expenstive than misses. And I like the juniors style.

For the 3rd question, "I do not care".

Yes. Juniors are not halfway between the adjacent Misses sizes. Juniors are cut smaller through the bust and and hips and short waisted. That short waisted bit made a big difference in how dresses fit me. With separates it is not always so noticeable.

The one thing my wife keeps saying....  Juniors are not just a size....  It is an age bracket too!  So-o-o IF she can find a 'plainer' style skirt/top/jeans she fits an 11 nicely.  Otherwise at our ages (Hmm...  54  SHHHHHH)  she tends to steer away from them since they are geared to be more juvenile.  That is aimed at the 15-29 age group.  A few years either way, or being careful picking age appropriate clothing allows you to extend that age range, but be careful!!

Lisa, I don't believe in "age appropriate", only body appropriate.
Age appropriate is mostly in the head. Only skirts higher than mid-thigh
(should be banned over 30) and stomach baring tops (should be banned over 45 except
near the beach).

The difference is in the cut, a size 9 women will have more muscles for
the same measures than a size 10, so the buttocks is higher, the thighs
leaner.

There is a difference in styles also, but its not that big.

Basically, if you an in shape women of 50, a 10 may not fit you well at all
because the cut is made for more fat which hangs differently on the body.

I'm in the junior range, I usually wear a size 11 to 13 jean and frequently wear medium shirts. ;)

I have a bit of both to be honest. Most of my designer dresses are in Misses sizes, my jeans and what not are all juniors. And as most already know...sizes really seem to depend on the manufacture...generally a size 3 in juniors and a size 4 in misses.

Sizes mean nothing these days, you've got to try them.
I'm wearing a size 5 right now and its not even
thight and I'm sure I've got size 7 jeans which are tight!!
So, that would mean that my size is 4-7! Makes little sense hey!

Though, was surprised I now fit in small coats!! All of them no
matter who makes them in many stores!
So, I'm now a US size 6-8 in tops! I'm like the amazing shrinking gal :-).

Lol, that happens to me all the time. My mom lent me her pants which are ones and she told me that they were really big on her (which I can beleive) but when I tried them on they fit me which I thought was impossible but when I checked they were ones and they did fit, I was sooo happy. :D

QuoteSize 5 have 26 inch waist and 36 inch hips, no males I've ever known has both,

I had about 26 inch waist pre-HRT (bit smaller I guess), at almost 24. But definitely not 36 inch hips.

My body is really not shaped to give me large hips (or shoulders).

Shoulder width: 16
Hips: 31.5 (change to 32ish)
Waist: 25.5 or so (changed to 25.0ish)
Bust: 31.5 (changed to 32ish)
Ribcage: 28.5~29 (similar)
Height: 5'6" (same)

I used to 'float' in men's 28 pants and small t-shirts were also pretty big.

According to my measurements, I fit better a size 12 girl (waist-wise - si panties), a size 16 girl length-wise (so pants). A size 1 or 3 (depends on maker) Junior pants. A size 0-2 or 24-26 inch Miss and whatever 24-26 is considered to be?

0-1-2-3 24-25-26 is rather equivalent to XS if measured that way. The problem is determining if its measured by hips (whereas XS might be a bit big), or by waist (whereas XS will be just right/tight).

At least shoes aren't that bad, though it's funny how I used to wear size 9 or 10 men's, and now wear size 8½ or 9 women's - while my feet didn't shrink, I now shop for my 'real' feet size (and finally know what size that is).

I wish I could gain bust and hips a bit. I'm one of those skinny stick teenagers-look-alike. So is my cousin though (and she's 22). Some have judged me to be as young as 14 due to it.

25.5 inch waist?
It has always been challenging to me (6 feet hgt).
To keep it, I have to run nearly everyday in summer.
In winter, it easily increases to 28 inch. Sigh...

Nevertheless, lady size 6 high-rise pants are always comfortable to me. For short pants, junior size 3, and for low-rise, size 4 is fine. Size-4 skirts were nice.

I also wear mostly juniors. I am pretty skinny and tall. I hover around size 4-7. I also look really young. It gets annoying when I get carded at the mall for being under 16 when I am 24.
