Title: How'd you take time off work for bottom surgery?
Post by: genmaicha on March 06, 2018, 07:30:16 PM
Hello everyone, thank you in advance for any responses.

I'm going to be having my hysterectomy later this year, so I'm getting my ducks in a row to potentially have phalloplasty with Rachel Bluebond-Langner in NYC. I'm about to graduate college, so I'm very nervous about taking time off for surgery, especially for 4-6 separate occasions (my hysterectomy, then the 4-5 the BL normally recommends, possibly more with complications).

I'll likely be working as a data analyst, which pays pretty dang well, so I'm also afraid of getting fired due to needing all these surgeries. I've found many resources about taking time off work for top surgery, but I've already had that so it doesn't apply to me, and I wouldn't be worried if it was a one time thing.

So, those of you who have had bottom surgery, how did you go about taking time off? I don't want to come out at work, I have no idea what surgery could be comparable, and I need whatever job I get, so being fired intimidates me.

Thanks again for any responses.

Well taking time off really depends on your company. Each has slight variations to this. Due to the recovery period for bottom surgery being about 3 months doctors suggest not doing rigorous work. For me I would have to take off from work for that time, due to the nature of my job. Unless they put me as a greeter. You are having a little different bottom surgery but, if you have to be out longer than a week most jobs offer what they call LOA or leave of absence. So you will not get paid but, your job is legally saved for you. You can apply to state benefits temporarily while off since you can't work. So this is one option for you.
