Title: Computer bag recommendations
Post by: Bari Jo on March 23, 2018, 02:16:54 AM
I was wondering if you all could give me your take on a computer bag.  I've got a tiny 13.3 inch computer, 3 lbs about the size of a mac book air.  It's a PC though, I'm a PC girl.  Before transition I always carried around a giant alienware laptop in a zeyner bag with skulls on it, over compensating.  Now I'm so much weaker I just can't lug around that weight, plus I want something gender affirming too.  Ideas?  Nothing crazy expensive, not getting a coach computer bag even though I want to:)  let me know what you find classy, gender affirming and not to $$$$

Given everyone has their own preferences, all I can suggest is go to a place that sells computer bags and try to find something you like.  If possible, try a variety of stores.

Hi Bari Jo

I switched to all leather bags for computers after my new brand new Macbook Air flew down across a stairway when a fabric strap broke. Luckily that only served to prove how tough it was. The only damage was a dent on one edge that looked like someone had hit the aluminum edge with a hammer.

Provided your laptop is as indestructable you can also probably get away with very little padding. With that in mind, e.g. the Yolando YTG03 or YTG01 might perhaps look nice but also professional... unless you are looking for something more colorful?

I used Kensington bags (https://www.kensington.com/us/us/4485/bags) because I have a portable office in my computer bag. Paper work, a book or two and office supplies really weight the bag down. Kensington bags hold up well to the abuse. My current bag is the Contour (https://www.kensington.com/us/us/7138/k62340d/contour-pro-17-carrying-case) because I have a 17 inch Mac Book Pro.

Thanks Zirconia, I had not heard of that brand before.  The computer I have is basically the PC version of the mac book air, same construction methods even.  Ill take a look.  Dena, Kensington makes great computer bags, but I want them at least a little femme.  I'm going out to stores this afternoon.  Ill let you know what I find.

I went to a ton of outlet stores, saks, Nordstrom's, Marshall's, general luggage, and yes coach.  Nothing really stood out.  I decided as a last ditch effort to just visit a computer store.  I did a search and found a company called Mobile Edge that manufactures bags right next to Fry's (computer store).  All the bags are computer bags and also even have an extensive women's line.  I wouldn't say its perfect, but I bout the Herringbone Ultra Tote.  It's affirming, holds what I need and only $59.  Happy with my shopping adventure today.  Btw, both Mobile Edge and Coach were the most gender affirming of all sales people.  They were not phased at all by me requesting to girly it up, and they did, by lots:)
