Title: Your gender choice? - new GP needed
Post by: Nbj on March 27, 2018, 09:03:39 AM
Hello there,

I moved out of my parent's house, into the city and need a new GP. (because my old one is like, an hour away now) But I am a little overwhelmed by the choice here. So actually, I just wanted to ask you, if you chose your GP by their gender, and if so, what reasons there were for you? I'm just asking this, because I am kinda worried about forgetting some crucial stuff to think about before deciding...

short details, if important
born female / identifying male-ish, something more male than female(?) / pre-HRT if ever / mostly closeted

Thanks for any opinions/experiences :)

(You might think, that after using forums for like...5 years one should be able to decide, which board a post should be posted on...well, noope. No such luck. SO, if there's a better one for my question, let me know!)

I chose my medical professionals based on ability and track record. I also score the front office Like when setting appt) on a scale . And lastly I do in fact make a gender choice which I prefer to be female . I feel I generally get a more receptive doctor to my needs when she is female, and I find it more comfortable (for me) to share info with.
That said...my current PCP is female. My pain mgt doctor is male. My gastro is female (NP) . Pre transition I usually accepted the first I found, and usually male. hth  :)

I don't think GP gender effect must on treatment. If my doctor can do for my medical needs then gender doesn't make any difference.

I am MTF and prefer dealing with female practitioners.  But the doctor shortage here in Nova Scotia is such that I'd have accepted anyone who would take me.

I got lucky, and both my GP and my HRT doc are female.  My previous GP was female, and both the therapists I have been to so far have been female.

Generally I prefer females. I had one really good male doctor as a child, but generally I prefer female drs. My endrlcologist and psychologist are both female, don't have a gp atm
