Title: Facial Electrolosis

Hi. I am going to start electrolysis on my face. I've done laser, and am now moving to the grey.
My plan is to do on Fridays so I have the week end to recover from red dots and swelling.
What is your experience with swelling and red spot recovery time? And any advice?
Thanks

I have found certain areas of the face are worse than others, but here is what I do to keep redness and swelling to a minimum
Clean your face thoroughly (not roughly) when you get home and apply antiseptic cream to the area.
Use ice in a cloth to cool the area down if it is needed. You may get some clear scabs appear on the dots, resist the urge to pick at them.
Don't shave until the swelling has gone down - 2 days in my experience, if you do it will cause bigger red scabs.
Each morning clean face, on the first morning you may need to apply more antiseptic and apply a good moisturiser, one I use has skin regenerative properties.

I haven't found any issues with recovery time. I have dance class the same evening as my regular electrolysis appointment, and there's no way I'm going to go to that with leftover stubble, so I do a very light shave over the area to remove any leftover hairs. I can't do anything about the swelling and blotchiness. It doesn't last more than a day; after that, the area is just a bit pink for a couple of days.
Upper and lower lips were another story. I looked like I had been on the losing end of a fight! I skipped dance class those evenings.
I find I have more of an issue with preparation time. I absolutely hate going out with three days of beard growth in preparation for my electro session.

I have some balloons filled with water that I freeze and bring along in a little cooler bag to my sessions, and ice down in the car for a few minutes afterward. This greatly reduces the immediate red spots.
I'll just toss in that after washing thoroughly I apply a mild astringent, witch hazel. This has both antiseptic properties and acts to tighten up the skin, closing pores that opened with the heat from washing. I just splash it on like an aftershave.
Once it dries, if within a day or two of electrolysis I will use an aloe Vera moisturizer that forms a protective film. Otherwise I just use my regular Cetaphil moisturizer.
This cut both the red spots and tiny infected spots way way down.

To reduce redness after electrolysis, I put on a dab of Hydrocortisone cream. The redness is gone in just a few hours, but I only get a slight amount of redness. If you take days to recover from electrolysis, there are stronger anti-inflammatory creams available by prescription. Take to your doctor if you need something strong to reduce the redness.

My electrologist keeps some 'Preparation H' wipes in her office fridge for her clients. They really help keep the redness and swelling down. I have my facial electrolysis appointments on Monday and Tuesday so I won't be furry all week.

I'd consider going in every week if it didn't mean essentially a perpetual 3 day growth. I did some laser treatment a while back so all that's left is white or gray so it covers fairly well but I know it's there.

As for after, I go straight home to shave. The redness hasn't been too bad and I cover it with make up even though I know I'm not supposed to on the first day. Haven't had any issues so going to keep doing that.
