hello!
to put it simply, i'm broke, and the gender identity clinic's waiting list is 18 months long. what i'm planning on doing is getting my blood tests done through the nhs, then asking my gp to write me a prescription for my blockers (and eventually my hormones) so that i can get them directly from the clearchemist site without having to go through gendergp or anything like that. would my gp be able to do this for me, or are hormonal medications only available through the gender identity clinics?

So i dont think ull be able to do this, its the reason why gendergp is used in the interim by peeps. The gic letter i got when i was put onto the waiting list says i wont be able to get any hormones etc until i have attended the gic and been assesed. Basicaly it read like dont even ask your gp as they will just say no. All they would do is reffer u to gic which it sounds like you already have anyway.
As far as i know a private percription is the only way to get the hormones safey while waiting for gic. For that ull need a sevice like gendergp. Theres no safe way around this

The plan would work as far as I know other than one problem. Doctors who don't have training in the area of HRT are reluctant to write prescriptions for it. Those who are knowledgable may require enough therapy to verify that you aren't making a mistake before prescribing HRT. That's why in the UK it's normally best to deal with a private gender clinic or wait it out. It's far easer to find a doctor knowledgable in treatment in a gender clinic than it would be elsewhere.
