Title: Pain Behind Nipple & Aerola if tapped. No pain around breast itself.

Hello,
For the past month or so, or maybe it has been 2 months, I have been feeling pain behind my nipple or aerola if it is tapped or hit. It is a sharp stabbing pain, but only if hit directly. I have no pain around the rest of the breast non-areola/nipple area. I think I recall back when I was first on hrt that the pain was actually around the whole breast and not isolated. I'm on a low dose of estrogen patches and use progesterone cream. My boobs, I think, are rounding off nicely. I just wonder why the pain is so isolated when, I think, before on my first time for hrt it was on the whole breast itself. I was thinking on maybe using a breast pump, but I think it will be too painful at this stage. I started hrt when I was 21 and I am about to be 33 now. I did have a financial/family period that I came off hrt :( roughly I think 3 years and I am back on since late 2017 december / 2018 jan. The cost for being off I think was pretty bad :(, but in turn I came out to family and was able to assimilate more into society/life. I guess it was necessary, but not sure just how worth it it was. Financial crisis are terrible!

It is still very early on so you'll probably get more pain, but it might be that you won't have the same breast growth you had at 21, which means the pain will be less.
Edit: Just to give some perspective, my boobs started getting most painful around 2-2.5 year mark and I've had generally good growth throughout.

2.5 years is too long of a time to wait. I believe for the lactation protocol going on meds and waiting one year is standard before pumping. I am about 3 to 4 months in. I mean if the pain is breast growth then i am very glad but at the same time i wanted to try pumping earlier than that. Is it okay to wear tight sport bras during a work out if you have this type of pain ?

It sounds like your breast buds are growing as they are the most sensitive part of the breast. If your HRT treatment is different than before, it's possible what your using now is more potent and your buds are developing again. Your doctor might be able to provide more information if you have questions.

Hi dena. Thank you for taking the time to respond. That is interesting as i feel that i am not on anything stronger than before previously i was on injectable estradio valerate. I feel the patches are much weaker than ev inj. It is also a low dose as i will see the doc again late april to share how i feel. I wonder what part of the breast develops behind the areola? Is it the ducts or glands? I'm surprised the breast rest of the breast has no pain. Today i noticed my breasts feel heavier if shaken. I think the progesterone cream is doing some work. It isn't from the doc rather amazon but i want to talk to him about progesterone in pill form.

The breast starts out about the size of a nut and eventually reaches the size of a donut. Enough fat covers it so you don't notice it there unless you aggressively probe for it. It remains more sensitive that the surrounding breast tissue and when you wack a fully developed breast, that what your most likely to feel.
