Hi,

I've been on spiro for almost a year, and have been at <no dosage please> for quite a while. I used to have very minor joint pain in my knees - very early onset of arthritis.  The pain has been extraordinary for the last month or so. NSAIDs and even vicodin don't do much.  I had cortisone injections 2 weeks ago for the first time - they did nothing! 

Any chance this is the spiro??!!

Are these muscle cramps, by any chance? These are caused by low sodium, I believe and one needs to remain hydrated and eat enough salt to avoid these.

Are you only taking Spiro and no estrogen? Too little sex hormones in the body may result in joint issues and arthritis.

You need to bring this up with your doctor.

for certain it is NOT muscle cramps. It feels like bone-on-bone.  But earlier Xrays show only minor degradation. I am on E - the max my Dr will prescribe (IM injections, weekly). I have seen an orthopedic surgeon for a consult and the cortisone shots. But I did not bring this up, not making a possible connection...

My hydration is good.

I saw joint pain as a possible side effect of spiro on reputable sites, now want to see if any others on HRT have experienced this personally.

I cant say its the cause, but I certainly have experienced similar things since starting Spiro. Knees, elbows, and hips, HURT. I can feel a grinding sensation in my hips I never felt before. I'm turning 30 next week, so it seems far too early in life for things like this to be occurring. But, who knows for sure.

Also, note, I do take finasteride as part of my blocking regimen. But, I don't get enough vitamins from my diet. - It's been said that your fat intake(omega-3) should /Increase/ on Spiro. as it helps with better absorption and prevents some side effects.

At this point, ill be willing to try. You might want to give it a try though, and see if it helps.

On a separate note, ill be switching to dutasteride and CPA, once I move to Australia, prior to orchi. So, I will tell you how it goes and if it improves my joint pain.

It's certainly not a scientific confirmation, but, I share your pain.

I didn't notice anything. You should know why you have it and all though. Stay with working with Drs. If it's not an arthritis or something they can identify then maybe talk to the Dr about experimenting with other Blocker's. I haven't heard of the connection myself. But I do know, hormones effect our cell reproduction. Make sure all that is getting the right reading's. However that's done.

I intend to bring together my orthopedist and gender specialist so they can talk (virtually; not IRL!).

My dose on spiro is at the very high end of the prescribed range (but no numbers !!).  My free T is virtually zero.  As I result, I dropped dutasteride a while ago - there is no T for it to work on.  My E is good - just had it tested again. And my diet is excellent, I think.

I will suggest lowering my spiro dosage to get my gender specialist's reaction.
