Title: Anyone have any bad experiences taking Finasteride?
Post by: Shawnna on May 31, 2018, 12:39:47 PM
I have an appt with my Dr to talk about possibly adding finasteride to my HRT.  Just wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences or impressive outcomes taking it.

Hair loss is one of the biggest things that keeps me from passing. It may not do much but it sounds like it's at least worth a try.  If it has helped you, how many months before you started to notice any effect?

Thanks!

I have been reading reports from others about Finasteride and it has many happy customers. Both the FTM and MTF members the site use it for the same reason. One word of warning and that is read the list of side effect carefully. Most people use this drug without any issues but a small portion of the population has experienced serious side effects from this drug. Should you have any of the side effects, contact your doctor and get off he drug as soon as possible.

I've been using Fin, initially at 'hair loss'  dose, then at 'HRT' dose for over three years without any specific side effects. Having said that, when I read the possible side-effects, none of them struck me as bad... as a transwoman.

After 16 weeks I have had no problems and indeed am very happy with Finasteride as part of HRT.

Hi -
I am taking Fin and using Rogaine, and am gaining hair, not really full yet, but good results so far without complications.  I am taking it along with - so I have to pay for it it has been like 140 per three months.  Not sure what is doing what with using both, but I want hair so...it is working so far.  Started to show after a month, had seeable growth in three months though thin!

Love and Hugs, Marcie

I've been taking finasteride for 6 months and rogaine generic equivalent for 4 months, I haave seen quite a bit of regrowth, my once bald to the skin crown has now almost disappeared below hair, although it is thin but I can feel more short hairs popping through.

I've been taking fin <dosage> daily for about 6 months. I haven't noticed regrowth, but no further loss or thinning either. The only initial side effect I noticed was some dizziness /imbalance issues that went away after about 1 week.

I have been using Finasteride for some time.  First it was the hair growth dosage and for a long time it has been the urological dosage (i.e. HRT dosage).  I do not think I have lost any more hair.  I suspect anything I want to take as regrowth is purely imaginary -- one can hope...

Pricing...  The hair growth dosage is considered a voluntary/vanity drug and is priced HIGH.  The higher dosage is considered a medical necessity and is priced like other generics.

Side effects...  The one I have is sexual (or lack thereof).  This is noted prominently in the literature and as a hopeful Transwoman this does not bother me.

I was on Finasteride for 4 or 5 years with no obvious side effects. Then I went to a new endo who reminded me of the known side effect of increasing T levels, and I stopped.

My own hair was never going to work out. It was thin and terrible even in high school when it was shoulder length. Of course _that_ side effect is having to live in a wig, which has all sorts of limitations of its own. (Which seem worse in summer. Hot. No swimming. I haven't tried the glue on versions though. That might solve the swimming part. Then I would only have to worry about body shape and weight. There is no end to the problems, is there? :-) )
