Title: Pain After Moving Up To Next Largest Dilator

I tried moving up to the next largest dilator today for my second of three 30 minute dilations. For the first 20 minutes I used the smallest dilator, which I have been using for 2 weeks now. Then, for the final 10 minutes, I tried inserting the next size up (purple, Soul Source brand) I used plenty of lube and went in almost to the last dot. After about 5 minutes I began feeling very sharp pains and so I removed the dilator. Hurting terribly ever since. This must be what it feels like to be raped! I have not done the third dilation of the day due to the pain.
Has anyone else had this problem? I am afraid to try it again. 22 days post-op and I was feeling pretty good. Afraid I might have damaged myself. I have a follow-up appointment next Tuesday with my Doctor.

I had mine a few days after you and am having similar difficulties, I imagine it's still due to swelling. I can get the purple and even blue one in to the first dot but they just doesn't want to make the transition under the pelvis. The little orange dilator goes in without trouble though.

It takes time for the swelling to go down. Remember, tissue was majorly moved around to make room for your vagina - that's a bit of a medical trauma. Don't give up dilating - the early post-op phase is a critical time for keeping things open vaginally. I waited till at least 3 or 4 weeks post-op before I even considered moving up size-wise for dilators. Even then, until things stretched out more, it was uncomfortable (almost painful - the first time I used a lager sized dilator, I basically exclaimed "oh my gawd!!!"). As it is, for me, to this day, when I do dilate (not very often anymore since I'm almost 15 years post-op), I'll start off with a smaller sized one for a short period of time, moving the the main (significantly larger sized) dilator, for the remainder of the dilation session. Don't force things with a larger dilator, if the pain becomes severe - otherwise you risk tearing things in your vagina.

Same Problem! I am still hurting today, but not as bad. Until that dilation with Mr. Purple I was feeling much better. Right now all I can think to do is tell my doctor next Tuesday. I'll report back here. Hoping you feel better soon Sis ♥

Continue with the smaller dilators. If your unable to or if there was excessive bleeding, contact your doctor as soon as possible. Normally when moving up to a larger dilator you would want to insert it slowly taking a few minutes to do the insertion. If you feel the dilator isn't going in all the way, keep pressure on the dilator but don't force it. It can take a while for the skin to stretch and accept the dilator and it might take multiple sessions before it goes in all the way.

Yes I totally agree Deena. I hope I didn't tear anything up. Can't wait for Tuesday to find out. So for now I will just stay with the orange. The smallest one. Thanks for replying honey!

That sounds about right to me. I just have to be patient and take it easy.

Yes Ladies. I do need to be more patient. There doesn't seem to be any blood so maybe I didn't hurt myself. Damn sore though! I'm using a Cane! LOL ♥

I am very sorry to hear about your experience and glad you did not have any complications. Please know the horror of rape is not about the physical. It is devastating psychological torture, a sense of helplessness and vulnerability victims often compared to death.

I already know about psychological torture because of my Dissociative Identity Disorder. I was just making a poor attempt at humor by comparing Dilating to Rape. You are absolutely correct and I did not mean to offend anyone. I just have a sick sense of humor. So sorry. Laughter is the only thing that got me through the 5 day bed rest and now the recovery pain. Hell's Kitchen to be specific. I love Gordon Ramsey! ♥

I share your pain as I was molested and raped many times during my early childhood. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with DID, PTSD, OCD and Panic DO. My motto is "Battling Multiple Personalities And Evil Spirits"
