Title: Name suggestions
Post by: Madeline on August 16, 2018, 04:46:34 PM
I've been going by the name Maria on here (duh) which is the name that's felt right, although sometimes I prefer Marie. Does anybody have any alternative suggestions? I'm not willing to share any photos at the moment but my male first and middle names are Jack and Steven respectively if that helps! I don't know if I'll necessarily use these names, I'm more just curious for suggestions and to see what other people think. Nowhere had *any* good feminine versions of Jack!  :-\
Lots of love,
Maria xxx

Hi Maria,

I would suggest selecting a name that feels like you.  That could mean feminized versions of your birth names, a name you'be always liked, or whatever feels right.  In my case Danielle is not exactly the female variant to my birth name, but it's close.  It's not that I wanted to keep my birth name but in female form; I just wanted something that "felt" like me.  What I would suggest is take some quiet one to meditate and reflect on who you are as a person and see what feels right.  I hope this helps.

Hugs!!

Danielle

Jinny Sue
Jadine Sahara
Jackie Sabine
Janis Sapphire
Jemma Sian
Jade Sheena
Jane Sian
Jana Stefani
Jasmine Skye

Or any combo - these are all good and nice names, I tried to have a nice flowing name, but only looked for my second name as I always called myself Kate from an early age. Pity that that slowed my progress out for too many years as I could talk to myself on occasion and calm my internal issues down (how wrong was that..), nvm, I went to too many lengths to repress myself.

Just a few names but still with your initials. I find that helps keeping some continuity in my existence without affecting dysphoria too much

Hope this helps

Danielle is right as well, find one that suits you, you will know it when you read it in your head. Read it over several times and see if it resonates with you, maybe change it a bit, there are some gorgeous names out there that are common ones but mis-spelled, go look and see as it needs to be the name that you want to hear people speak.

I really love that idea thanks! I'm not sure whether for a first or middle name though, as I've been using Maria for a while. I've got some pointing to do more!  :D
Lots of love

It took time for me to land on mine, (Adam). I first started with Aiden because I loved that name but then I realized  that I liked it in terms of "I'd totally name my kid that". It didnt feel right. When my parents were sort of beginning to accept it, since I'm an only child, I asked what they would have named me if I was born a boy. (Turns out I was supposed to have an older brother, but he didnt make it to full term). So I thought to honor him and my parents wishes, I went with Adam Michael (its also the reverse initials of my birth name, M A). When I thought to try that it felt "right". I went by the first choice for a good 2 or 3 months of starting HRT and the process in general before I realized it just wasn't sticking. I'm not sure if you're an only child too and could ask your parents type of thing, but not only did it give me the option but it felt like that HAD to be it,  because well, that would have been my name. It gave me less of a choice and made it easier in my opinion. A lot of trans people i spoke to stick with the same initials or similar sounding names.  It also seems to make things easier legally and in medical situations in my opinion.

Basically, try a few different ones out and see how they sound when you say it as your name or you're called that. I promise you'll know, you'll feel the right one. Even if it takes time :) and as for any ideas, Jackie is close if you want to try something similar to your birth name or Stephanie for Steven.
