I had my neovaginoplasty consult with Dr. Oates today. I just wanted to say my experience was pretty similar to transgirl34. I have masshealth but not for BMC so I did have to jump through several hoops and it took a few weeks to get my insurance to approve me going to his office, but they did. I found Erica Baptista to be very sweet and definitely an advocate for me, she called my dr office and basically told them they had to call my insurance and get it approved for me to come to BMC. She said she told them this is a very sensitive matter and it's their job to get me the care I deserve. She had always been very responsive like same day. After it got approved though I had a very tough time getting in touch. Like emailed and 2-3 weeks passed, called and a week passed without any response which was annoying. Finally I called the transgender center place at BMC and asked them to have her return my call.
The front desk was very sweet and polite, and the resident and Dr Oates were both extremely polite and sweet. I do always let the Drs know I'm a nurse because I feel that cuts out any BS and they know I obviously know what I'm talking about and they can talk to me on a level different than others, so I think that kind of helps. I am so excited though for real. I found him to be nicer than ANY plastic surgeon I've had work with. I was so much more at ease with him. I hate that that is how plastic surgeon's offices are everyone is catty and rude even if you're pretty and have already had surgery. I was really nervous about Oates considering there were mixed reviews but he was definitely fantastic in my opinion. He walked me out back to the waiting room and everything which I thought was super considerate. Usually they have the nurse do it, but he and the resident did it for me.
now if I can just get this electrolysis done so I can get me a vag ;D

Dr Oates came out himself and got me every time, it was a first for me, too.
I thought his manner was great, as I stated in my reviews of him.
