Title: Introduction
Post by: TaraJo on September 01, 2018, 11:02:50 AM
So, hi.  I'm kinda new, kinda not.  Anyway, whatever.  I'm Tara, I'm 40, I live in Oklahoma and, everything going as planned, I should be about 9 months away from surgery with Dr Ley.  And, yeah, I'm kinda doing the introduction thing here.  Anyone have any questions or whatnot I need to throw in?

@TaraJo
Dear TaraJo:
After I sent you my Welcome Message on another thread this morning, thank you for following my suggestion to come here to the Introductions Forum to let other members know that you are a member and on the Forums.

I know that you have been around Susan's Place for a long time and I am glad to see that you have started to post details about yourself, and your concerns and questions.

Now that you have made several postings here I am certain that you will receive more involvement and sharing of thoughts from like-minded members here.   There is no doubt in my mind that you will also have the opportunity to make some new friends.

Again, thank you for introducing yourself and for becoming a member of Susan's Place.
Wishing your well,
Danielle

Hi Tara,
I don't live in Oklahoma anymore, but I was born in Spiro. I think it is kinda funny  :angel:

It sounds like things are moving along for you. How trans friendly is Oklahoma? I live in Nebraska now and it isn't very trans friendly.

Wow.  All the way in Spiro.  That's a part of the state I don't think I've ever really explored.  Mostly I've lived in the Tulsa or Oklahoma City areas; most rural I ever lived was when I was little and grew up in Glenpool.... but even then we were only like 15 or so miles away from Tulsa.

As for my area, I'm not entirely certain how trans friendly things are.  I seem to get by alright, but I seem to pass well enough that it's not a big issue.  I haven't seemed to have it be an issue on the job at all, but the jobs I tend to go for are usually in fields that are pretty GLBT friendly.  My employer is really GLBT friendly; they even marched in our local pride parade.  And I tend to keep the majority of my life in one, small area (heck, I walk to work in 20 minutes each day) and since that area is more urban, it tends to be more accepting.

So I'm safe enough.  But I've known some other less passing trans people who aren't doing quite so well.  I know my boyfriend has been asked to use a specific restroom at work because they don't want him using the mens room (my boyfriend is FtM).  So it isn't all rainbows and unicorns, but it's not as bad as some people would have you think.
