So I was going in today for a laser treatment anyway on my lip & chin & decided to start getting things cleaned up down under. I'm guessing that like most everything else, it depends on who you ask and what you're asking about, but I'm asking you all. Will 6 sessions of laser qualify me for that portion of the GCS requirement? I'm close to a year on HRT doing well. I will have no trouble getting my letters from my therapist and physician. I've been living 24/7 as the right me for a year. Legal name & gender marker corrected on all my documents done for months now. Breasts, belly, butt & hips being enhanced in 2 weeks. Spring 2019 is my target for GCS. I'm saving FFS for last just because it's my personal lowest priority.

Mari,

My GCS doctor wanted electrolysis in the genital area before surgery, not laser. My pubic hair was course and dark, so I did have a few laser sessions on my genital area. It was not very effective. I ended up doing one hour of genital electrolysis once a week for about 6 months.

We all respond to laser differently, but most of us report only temporary reduction of hair in the areas treated.

Every surgeon is different. Some require pubic hair removal by electrolysis, but you only need to remove about a one inch border around the base of the penis and another strip  1 or 2 inches wide starting at the base of the penis and going all the way down the scrotum to the anus. Others surgeons do not require any hair removal.

One more thing. It is difficult to find an electrologist willing to do electrolysis on the genitals. Most just do face, arms and legs. If they advertise that they will do a bikini line, then they may be willing to do genital electrolysis.

Best wishes on your transition and get started on genital  hair removal now. It takes a long time.

Thank you Dani ❤️ I have a transgender friend that does electrolysis in my community. I just have heard so many versions of everything. Another variable will be my insurance company's requirements.

it'll depend on the surgeon doing the operation.  Some are fine with laser, others are sticklers for electrolysis.  Some will do follicle scraping, which is a plus, if you're worried about any regrowth.  Laser is often described at permanent hair reduction, some saying 70 to 80%.  I would do laser then electorlysis if it were me.  It'd be a bit cheaper than doing straight electrolysis.  However, my surgeon wanted electrolysis... Which totally sucks.  It's so slow...  and gets expensive.  But, I've heard a couple of horror stories about ladies not following directions and the hair coming back post op.  From what I hear, it's quite unpleasant.  A friend of mine underwent GRS and was not required to do "Any" hair removal for surgery.  She's had zero issues...  so I'd concentrate on finding the surgeon and get their assessment, it may save you a lot of time, money, and headaches.

I had laser and electrolosis. And i was soooooo smooth in the surgery area for ages. Anyway 6 weeks before surgery i was supposed to stop hormones..... Im now 4 days out from surgery. Testosterone must be so strong. The skin is rough on my scrotum and hairy again :( soooo annoying.
Hope he will do follicle scraping or ill have a hairy vagina.

I just bought my hair removal package for GRS. It will be a combination of Laser and electrolysis like I did on my face. Face was 6 x Laser and will in the end be 20 hours of electrolysis (still a few mor sessions to go). It worked extremely well on my face, so I hope it will work equally well down south.
I have opted to get the entire bikini zone done too...

This is my plan too. I've done 5 times on my upper lip & 4 on my chin & once Brazilian with lazer so far. Next up is electrolysis on my lip after the final lazer treatment.

I have a friend who had hers done in Thailand and was told that electrolysis makes the tissue down there tougher to work with. Soooo many variations. I did a consultation and asked about follicle scraping. They said they do it but if they can't see it they can't scrape it. [emoji79]

I had the Laser and Electrolysis for about 6 months before my GRS. I am now at 11 weeks post-op with no problems. My Doctor only required that I was personally satisfied with my hair removal before surgery. Best wishes for your's! ♥

On that note, I've seen women here on the site who were unable to cope with hair in the vagina post-op. Hair removal before surgery is unpleasant. Hair removal after surgery is unpleasant, and sometimes difficult to impossible. If I were doing GRS, I'd go full bore electrolysis to avoid the potential nightmare.

I do agree, but my Electrologist required Laser to get rid of most of the dark hairs. She then took care of the grey hairs with Electrolysis. 11 weeks and no hair growth for me!

Right, I was trying to say that I'd want to be sure that I was smooth and bare down below for awhile before the surgery, rather than some of the girls who would rather skip pre-op hair removal and rely on a follicle scraping on the day of surgery. My post DID read as touting electrolysis over laser, and that wasn't my intent.  :)

Some surgeons, outside of Thailand may disagree, but from meetings with my Thai tg friends and srs surgeons, scraping the follicles is the only permanent way to not have regrowth of scrotum and penile hairs inside the vagina. Here is the problem,  both laser and electrolysis reduces the size of the follicles and may result in being missed in the labour intensive scraping process. So most prefer this is not done on skin used for the neo vagina.

Talk to your surgeon and let him describe exactly what area he wants laser or electrolysis, pre surgery. If scraping is not his surgical procedure then I suggest you rethink the surgeons choice.  Or ask him why. The skin area that is not scraped can be lasered or electrolysis post GRS.
