Welcome to the rest of your life! (I mean that in a good way)
You won't lose yourself, you'd be on the road to finding yourself. Whether you take this road or another one is entirely up to you. You may lose friends, GF/BF/Otherwise. It's the nature of the risk. You might also find that GF/BF/Otherwise relationship all the stronger for it.
At 16 you have a lot of time to figure it all out.
Welcome to Susan's

Hey!
Why should you lose yourself? You'll just give freedom to real you who hiding inside your body. You'll probably change in some way. You can lose people around you due that changes or just the fact you're trans, but if you really transgender, you'll find out that this need to unleash your nature will grow stronger and it can become painful.
See gender therapist. Talk about options. Think through it thoroughly. Make decision.
And you probably wanna make some introduction (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,8.0.html) in subforum with same name, that'll help people notice you :)
