Hi Everyone,
Today is my first day on Susan's place. It also marks the first day I have reached out to others who are going through or have gone through transitioning into their true selves. For me, I have identified myself as a gay man for all of my adult life. I am 44. I came out as gay at 22. I have researched and read of many stories of transwomen who have transitioned later in life and am looking to connect with others who have done so as well...not that I don't welcome everyone to reach out. I have been a strong LGBT advocate over the years and it led me to work as a professional mental health counselor. What has amazed me is my blindness to my own gender dysphoria and how I have been in such denial for so long, even as I helped others deal with issues regarding sexuality and gender. Talk about denial! That denial took me through two turbulent relationships with gay men over the years and has contributed to a lifetime of struggling with mental health issues and chronic unhappiness. I am finally looking to break free of all that. I welcome any advice, tips, or encouragement any of you can offer. I am in a pretty dark place, but maybe there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Any Atlanta area trans people? It would be great to connect. Have a nice evening everyone!
Billie

Hi Billie
I am kind as new here as you are, and I am even much older than you are. And I also worked in health care (surgical side), and I also had no idea what was going on with me, and who I was. My marriage fell apart because I did not know why I was so very angry an abusive (luckily only verbally). I realized a few years ago what was wrong, and I was able to leave my anger behind. I am now on my path to become a woman, I am still struggling, but mostly because everything moves so slow. But I am happy now, and look forward into a bright and colorful future!
I hope you will see this future pretty soon!

Hi Billie,
Nice to meet you, Welcome to Susan's Place, I think you will definitely find there are others on here who identified with being gay only to realize later that there was a lot more to it than that.
Also having a professional mental health counselor on Susan's is such a bonus! I will see you around the forums.
Take care,
Sonja.
