Title: Consent forms
Post by: Ethelind on October 30, 2018, 02:27:01 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site although I've been reading the FFS section for a few months now in an attempt to gather as much information as possible on the procedures available and the surgeons who practice this procedure.
I have recently booked an FFS with a surgeon and I have received the consent forms in my mail.
One of the consent form seems to demand my consent to have my pictures used for commercial purposes including posting on their website and social media sites.
Is this a common practice in the field? do many surgeons demand this kind of thing?

Thank you a lot

Hello Ethelind, welcome to Susan's!

I received one of these forms before FFS (consent to publish photos) and it was purely optional.  I could have decided to reject the form or sign it, and proceed with surgery either way.

The form you are looking at is probably optional for your particular surgeon but I can't be certain - the accurate answer is with your surgeon's office.  You're showing why it's good to understand what's in a form before signing it.

Thank you a lot for your reply.

I asked and it turned to be indeed optional for me as well.

Most of the doctors give you such a form to sign before surgery. Mine was saying that I allow my doctor to show before/ after pictures to other potential patients only. I refused to sign that and they had another consent form ready for me without that part.
