Dear Chris:
There is not "one answer" for everyone, it is entirely up to your doctor and your frequent blood test results, and perhaps other health related issues. Usually if all goes well, after the initial doctor visits, the follow up exams can be many months apart. It is your doctor's call.

Also, a GP is quite capable of ordering the tests etc., and forwarding the results to the endocrinologist. The GP can then write the prescription on the edo's order.

Not sure how useful this is for you as I live in Europe, but my endo is in a different country from where I currently live.
Current plan is to fly the 2000 km every 3 months or so for blood samples and updates. Results can be taken over the phone.

Endo's this town are busy, hard to get up with! Once you 'ave letter, therapist referral I would guess every 3 months? PM can help with a therapist, group meetings etc . . . Befriend facebook.com/erinswen and ask her for "group details" (or website erinswenson.com) Tell her "Keri and Kiera" sent ya I should prolly revisit her myself!
(ps: am going Las Vegas tomorrow so replies might be slow! No car? Can ya rent one? Flying here is no bargain!)

It feels good to have some one to talk to and ask questions I'm really struggling with all this I have for 30 years now seems to only get worse as the more I try being true to myself because I had rather be miserable than to hurt my boys

I've visited my endocrinologist every 3 months since starting last summer, and primary doctor once per year. Many meetings with other health care professionals as I dove into surgery but that's a different set of decisions and options. I think after a couple years my endo updates will be every 6 months.

I was in a similar position. I considered starting HRT back in 2002 but didn't want to cause issues for my daughters (ages 4 and 6 then). During my first appointment I was nervous as hell. At my second appointment four months later I was smiling ear to ear, which was a good indication that HRT was the right path for me. Initially I went every four months, but after the first four visits they were stretched out to every six months.

Maybe see if you can find a primary care doctor who can do it... it's not rocket science to do HRT. My doctor isn't an endo and I can still do all my labs there and be monitored safely.
