So therapist is just a licensed social worker/therapist...would I benefit from switching to a psychiatrist or psychotherapist? I do enjoy our sessions and feel they help expandy thoughts.... Just wondering what others thought....

I have always thought good things about most therapists, especially gender therapist that specialize in gender issues.
Now to the point of your question:
Certainly you can find psychiatrists and psychotherapists that have gender specialties but perhaps hang on to your wallet, the sessions "may" cost more money than with a Therapist,
....but certainly if you are getting help that you need and desire, money and insurance reimbursement would be a less important secondary issue.

When I started all this I assumed I'd need a doctor and some sort of therapist. Well there's also an endocrinologist, not mandatory but can help to have that type of specialist in addition to a general doctor. And knowing a psychologist can help, in addition to a therapist. Professional time can be expensive (with or without insurance) but surgeons in some countries require a signature from two mental health professionals before they will perform certain procedures. A signature from a M.A. (Master's degree) therapist, and a separate signature from a PhD level psychologist. So even if you don't see more than one on a regular basis, you may need to visit more than one to obtain the correct signatures. Depends what your plans are.

Thanks for the replies, my plans are to work on starting HRT once I figure out if and what kind of relationship can be kept between my wife and I. Cost isn't really an issue as I lucked out with the job I have which provides 100% paid premiums, and the remaining out of pocket from deductibles is covered by wellness plan incentive and the rest by my FSA which I put the max into anyways. I'm in the USA, and also have a Planned Parenthood nearby that provides HRT with informed consent. I guess I'll stick with my therapist as I feel like she really cares and is trying to help me navigate being able to be myself while hopefully not losing my marriage.
