Okay with Christmas just around the corner, the seasonal drinks have started to flow. I always love a good egg nog and rum for the season cheers.
Does anyone else love a good egg nog drink for this time of the year?
Do like it with rum of some other kind spirit?

Count me in, I drink it with Whiskey. Last year in October I got such a big craving that I made my own. It's not that hard, though the batch I made was super rich, and if I do it again I might want to use light cream or skim milk or something like that.

I've tried it with rum, bourbon and vodka. (Not at the same time!) A different kind of whiskey would probably work better than bourbon. Rum and vodka are fine. Really, vodka goes pretty good with about anything.

I lived about half of my live in Minnesconsin, and the hard liquor of choice there is brandy, and that is what goes into a good eggnog!
And yes, I love it, but it don't drink it because it does not very well for my goal of loosing weight!

You guys are killing me. Why? WhY? WHY did you make me have to think about this? :D
I told myself at the beginning of November I was going to lay off the brandy and the bit of eggnog I add to season it a little topped off of course with a dash of nutmeg. This is the entire holiday season for me and basically the only festive thing I do that's Christmassy.
I've done so well! I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread because now my mouth is watering for it. I hate you all! (how's that for displaced aggression?)
I have a pretty active nightlife as a highly regarded and well known regular at a small neighborhood sports bar and grill mostly full of younger guys that's about a minute from my home. The folks that I've gotten to know there have become my friends and family along with men I've lusted after and and a couple of the girls I've become kind of a big sister/cool mom to and it's all been very rewarding and fulfilling and having a social life and dare I say even being popular is addictive as heck. I'm usually there until closing anywhere from two to six nights a week and usually have two or three light beers. (ick) In spite of this, I have managed to lose a fair amount of weight in the last year and I'm really happy with myself and have kind of found the balance of how many junk calories and carbs I can have and still continue to hopefully drop that last 10 pounds. I didn't even make cookies this year.
EGGNOG WILL THROW THIS WHOLE BALANCE INTO THE BIN.
I can't. I won't. I want it so bad. >:-)

I just drink it straight as I don't drink any of the stuff you would mix with it. The twist I have is a local dairy has come out with a peppermint version of Egg Nog which is pretty good. On top of that, the dairy that produces the stuff is about a mile away from me so I can just swing by after work and bring a bottle home with me.

I'm a recovering alcoholic, and never cared for spiked nog, anyway. But I'll drink the hell out of a cartoon of Hood Golden Eggnog! Sadly, they don't do eggnog here in the UK. I'm beside myself. I might cave in and try making a batch of homemade.

Our preferred winter libation is either hot chocolate with Baileys and whipped cream, or an Irish coffee.

All those versions of cold weather drinks sound really good to me, but as a Type II diabetic and a person who wants to shed about 20 pounds, neither of them are good for me!

They sell Dutch Advocaat here. Ain't that much the same?

Megan says it might be close. She has a 4 pack of Snowball in the fridge, but they have alcohol in them, so off limits for me.

Thanks everyone for some great ideas for egg nog, wow I'll have to go buy some more nog before it is gone.
I also have been making a great egg nog latte once in awhile in the morning, like this morning, 1/2 espresso and a little more than 1/2 heated egg nog. It does not always have to be with some spirit.
@LisaK, I am thinking that your displaced aggression has now disappeared with the comfort of a newly formed liking of egg nog and brandy with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top, sorry to have driven you to that state despair, I promise I will not bring it up until Christmas again..
Hot chocolate is also such a warming drink for those cold morning and days...yum yum

Devlynshire cream, I like what you did there! We went and picked up eggnog ingredients, gonna
give it a whirl! :)

I would not, could not, in a house
I will not, will not, with a mouse
I couldn't in a boat
But I might feed it to a goat

We'll make it out of cream and milk
With eggs and sugar smooth as silk
But little mouse, I now must ask
What are you doing with that flask?
