Title: Breast Development: Should I Be Worried?
Post by: Tiana_Diana on December 27, 2018, 11:59:16 PM

Hello loves,
I am new here with a question and/or query!
A little introduction: I have been on hormones for 2 and a 1/2 years.
I've had good results and pleased with how my transition is going generally. (Though other things are taking eons to go through via the NHS, but I'm grateful we have it at all)
The Question:
I have a problem where my breasts regularly (every 3-7 weeks) continue to become sore which lasts from 1 - 2 1/2 weeks. I have read that 2 years is essentially the stopping point for growth (on HRT). I was wondering should I be worried about the pains and go to the doctors? Or from some of your experiences if it is normal, and what could it be? (I don't think it is growth because I am already filling out a 34C (UK size) as well as being 5'10 and about 10 1/2 stone / 140-150 pounds - a small frame with not much room to get bigger)
I am sorry if it seems like a trivial question! I wake up with pains similar to bruising, a numb yet sore feeling and have become worried. I avoid my doctor as much as possible as he's not outwardly supporting (they've refused me changing GPs) and would feel awkward asking about my breasts to him.
Thank you for your replies,
Tiana

Hi Tiana!!!
Welcome to the forum little sister!!!
I wouldn't worry too much... I had a good growth spurt around the 2 and 2.5 year marks and still get the occasional sore/itchy week now at the five year mark... if you continue to have concerns you should ask a doctor but, I would say all is likely well 🙋♀️
Onward we go brave sister!!!

Thank you Ashley!
I am glad that you think it's not too serious, I will see how I go!
I am hoping it's not growth (weird to say as a transwoman) as I'm already facing stretch marks. I'm also happy with my general size though not in the cleavage area, and, wanting breast implants to fill that out, but not going too big!
Also do you have any tips how to deal with the soreness, or at least somewhat soothe it - because the soreness makes me mildly irritated.
Thank you again,
Tiana

Hey Tiana!!!... I never put out much effort as far as looking for things to help with the soreness but, maybe someone else has a secret home remedy to share!!!...
I never got any implants and ended up at a 32C... the fading away of upper body muscle continued into years 3 and 4 which improves bust size appearance and dropping of overal body weight as well... I seem to hover around 134 now so I would say, things may be still changing for you and you might want to wait and see where things settle but, totally a personal choice... I think too much upstairs without good hip and butt development can throw nice proportions off a bit but again... to each their own!!!... All good things to you as you consider the possibilities little sister!!!
Onward we go!!!

Thank you again! I guess I can deal/ignore the soreness as it's not too painful just an irritant.
The only reason I want implants is because my breasts are full on the outside and are a lovely size but then my cleavage area is flatter that a pancake thrown against a wall but I don't have the funds for it so I'd wait anyway! So I will see as I go on.
Thank you again! Xo

I'm really not sure where that 2 years growth thing comes from, it's a fallacy. It's even more amazing that it persists, given the evidence to the contrary. Five years is a more realistic number - but cis women can and do take longer..
After 2.5 years on hormones, you are about as developed as a mid-teen, have they finished their breast growth? No. Stop worrying about it and get on with enjoying life.

This guide says it's pretty much done by 2 - 3 years.

And other sources;
"Breast size is individually variable. Final breast size is typically reached within two years, "
from https://genderanalysis.net/resources/studies-on-trans-womens-breast-development/
"It usually takes 2 years for the breast growth to reach its maximum size."
https://www.2passclinic.com/6-main-body-changes-induced-by-mtf-hrt/
"The maximum breast growth however is seen after 2–3 years"
https://www.endocrine-abstracts.org/ea/0041/ea0041gp146
But I've also read that if you are taking progesterone that that can still create breast tissue beyond the typical.

Hello,
The two years came from my Gender Specialist who said to me usually breast development ends within the 2 year time frame, as well as reading articles and other transwomen quoting the same.
I understand we're all different and some will take longer than others but my worry is I have a decent size bust right now (especially for my frame) and the pain was and is continuous which made me worried. I decided to ask on this website as it has given me plenty of previous advice when browsing: and would probably serve better than going up to my GP who has no interest or experience in this area.
Thank you for your help. You and the other girls have allieved me of thinking the worst

Thank you for these links. They're informative and clearly thought about and researched.
It seems I may still be growing and is what is causing the uncomfortable feeling.
Thank you so much!

My breast stopped maturing around my third year however, the growth pains still manifest several times a year and I am 10 years into HRT.

The first 2 of those links both refer to the same source info and the 3rd doesn't even say anything like what is being claimed. In fact, all the claims of a "2 years of growth" seem to trace back to the same place - and that table of data is known to be very wrong.
Bonus points if you can work it out.

I'm sure they are a lovely warm, caring doctor, but their experience doesn't stop them being wrong. My doctor had no troubles telling me that achieving B-cup breasts wouldn't be a problem.. 8 years down the track, I'm still looking at my AA-cups and waiting for the B's to happen.
If a cis girl can't grow breasts in 2 years with perfect hormone levels, what makes you think it can be done in 2 years in a trans woman with crap levels - estradiol is not the only player?

My apologies for posting wrong data. Just proves that you can't believe everything you read, especially on the web. 😔

I am 1 year and now 9 days more since I started with estrogen on December 25, 2017 when I was 14 years old, and well, with what I have developed, I would say that I have small breasts because now I have B34 cup.
I go with my mom to try my bras in a store always, so she helps me find the right support for me, even so, I feel that my breasts are still small for me, because the other girls have bigger breasts, but tend I weighed a bit and my endocrinologist (pediatric endocrinologist) asked me in December (2018) when I underwent my last physical revision and reading of my hormonal levels, and my doctor asked me to gain weight according to her because "it is not growing" Like a sick woman "for being thin, and that would also benefit me.
Do you think that getting a little fat is good for breast development? My endocrinologist says that I have a lot of time to wait to get to the final size of my breasts because I'm still young and when i will have 18 years old to stop growing, I suppose, and according to the dose of estrogen, they'll change it again in 5 months more, so I have to wait.
that :/
The funny thing is that now I will be 16 years old on February 27 and I will have to go to a teenage endocrinologist recommended by my current endocrinologist, but since all my clinical data are in the system, I guess it will be the same with her (It will be another woman like that that I will feel comfortable and safe, because with men it makes me nervous and shameful)

I'm surprised you were able to start with it so young. My understanding was that youths are put on puberty blockers until 18, when they're legally old enough to decide what they want.

It was my psychiatrist who gave me the pass to start with estrogen because I had a lot of depression for wanting to be like the other girls, i was (and i'm) with hormon blockers obvious, and I think maybe it also has something to do where you live, I'm from Chile, and even what I also I read is that usually the hormonal replacement begins at age 16 if it is already with hormonal blockers, I guess my case is different, but I'm not the only one who started with estrogen at my age, there are even younger people who gave them the pass to start hormone therapy with estrogen, but I guess it's because of the mental state, and the risk and benefit.
Even so my endocrinologist always tries to monitor the fact that if my body does not respond well, but I have no side effects in all this time, and I am healthy, apart from that, but thats not the theme in here, is about boobs xd.
