Hello , My name is Michelle. That is not what my driver licence says, but since the age of 10 (i am 47 now)when a friend told me that his mum told him what his name would have been if he had been born a girl , the first thing i did that day when i got home is i asked my mother what my name would have been, she said Michelle.
Since then Michelle has been my own secret.
Growing up in the eighties about all i was exposed to was Klinger from MASH (if anyone remembers this was a television show about a army surgical hospital in Korea. Klinger would wear dresses around the base hoping to get a section 8, if he got a section 8 he would have been discharged as being crazy). Great for a young teenager i am totally crazy ,that is what society and television is telling me.
So i had to convince the world i was a boy, easy boys are naughty, that was easy to do,being the idiot of the school room not hard to do. Now 16 years old(1987) school was not an option any more. Started working doing very masculine jobs and always hating them. Now early 2015 Clinical depression set in. At the time i was not aware of how bad things were for me, lucky i decided to find a psychologist.
Now 4 years later i understand where i want to go.I completed a 6 month part time course in low level health care, i am hoping this will be a trans friendly work environment.
I live in Melbourne Australia where there is a very good medical and social community. I now have all the approval for HRT. I still work in the same job not for to much longer hopefully.
This is my first time posting, i do not know any one who is transgender i think starting here may be a good way to make connections.
Thank you to anyone who has taken time to read this, i look forward to reading and hopefully posting in some
of these forums.
Michelle.

Hi Michelle - Yeah Klinger from MASH oh my. Jokes about crossdressing and being transgender continue to this day. I see it all the time even in my favorite sitcoms. Fortunately society is slowly evolving and most people are either tolerant, accepting or supportive. Still a few transphobes out there though.
Congratulations on your decision to live as the real you. I did so nearly 3 years ago and I now live as an openly transgender woman - including legally such as birth certificate - name - drivers license etc.
This journey is filled with many wonderful and difficult things. I do not know your exact future but I do know that it will be somewhat different than what you are envisioning now. Some of it will be better and some of it will be harder. But living as your authentic self is worth it.
Wishing you peace
Kim

Michelle.
I am 49 years old and when I was in primary school my private name was Christine. I have worked in boat building, commercial diving and aircraft maintenance.
At age 46 in 2015 my female self could not be contained any more and a psychiatrist and psychologist assisted me to begin HRT.
My life is now very good but I still haven't transitioned. I express myself as a woman in my spare time.
I live in Darwin in Oz.
Look forward to catching you on the website.
Kind regards, Kirsten.

G'day Michelle,
Welcome to the community. I think you'll find Melbourne a very welcoming city for trans girls. I lived in Sydney before moving to the US and never had any real problems overall.
Enjoy the journey - you'll have many interesting and challenging moments, but there is lots of support here.
