Title: There are no second chances - vale to a friend
Post by: Cindy on January 08, 2019, 02:22:39 AM

A man who helped me so much in my transition at work was the Head of Pathology, a friend who basically said to the entire medical community that if they had a problem with me being TG then they had a problem with him. Of course as one of the highest ranking medics in a hospital it was a comment that could not be ignored.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, he did the histopathology. During my surgery he insisted they keep me under while he brought in his Registrars and took 5 hours on sequential frozen sections to ensure that they got the lot. He had 6 medics working with him plus his technicians. There are no words.

I saw him two weeks ago and he hugged me and gave me a kiss. He told me not to be afraid as I was not in remission - I was cured and that he had made sure of that. Just words but beautiful ones.

He was found unconscious yesterday slumped over his microscope, a massive stroke destroyed his brain. Life support was turned off today.

He never got to ride the Kawasaki 900 he was rebuilding. He never got to take that holiday. He never got to....

He was my friend.

Many of us put things off ... particularly us.. we will wait until...

There is no rerun on this life. There is no second chance.

Life goes in an instant.

True words.
A couple of years ago a good workmate and good friend of mine died of cancer.
While we were out at sea retrieving the mooring of his boat that he had to sell he said,
" In this life you dont regret the things you did - you regret the things you didnt do"

Kind regards,  Kirsten.

Sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your friend, Cindy. Tomorrow is a gift, one that we're never sure if we're going to receive.

Hugs, Devlyn

Hello Cindy,

Two or three weeks ago I received notice that a young woman I was befriending at our church had decided she couldn't take it anymore and ended it all. Different than your friend but no less final. Could you or I have done any more for our friends...?? Not the issue at hand. Life is indeed short and the end point so uncertain. It is time to live fully and love as completely as we can. The moments are too short and the opportunities so precious.

I am sorry for your loss, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hugs,
Tia Anne

So sorry for your loss Cindy.  We spend so much time planning for the future when we are not guaranteed the next second.

@Cindy
Dear Cindy:
My heartfelt sympathies go to out you...   I know the feeling of having ones that are close to us unexpectedly go "beyond our reach."  You will always remember the good thoughts and actions of your friend but you will also always feel the loss of a great friend.

The good news in all of this is that you will have no regrets for any untoward words or hastily spoken words of anger toward your friend.  You were able to exchange a last kiss and a hug and exchange and hear his kind words.
This is why I advise all that I exchange comments with here on the forums when they are facing non-acceptance from parents, family and old friends....   it is incumbent on us to not speak badly with unsavory words or harsh comments, we need to always bridle our tongue.  It is important that we not have any regrets for mis-spoken and angry words and actions toward those that are family and friends and loved ones.... we will never know when it will be too late to make amends.   Regrets and guilt we will have to live with the rest of our lives.... so make peace now.

Thank you Cindy for your posting, it was a good thing for us to read and what you posted about life being just a vapor, here today, gone tomorrow...

...as  @Kirsteneklund7 stated in her comment:
"In this life you don't regret the things you did - you regret the things you didn't do"

Many, many HUGS and well wishes to you.
