Title: Am I to old to wear a mini skirt

Hi as I am new here this may have been raised before?
I am 42, I look younger than my age so I guess I could pass for mid 30's.
The question is am I to old, as I don't want to give the wrong impression to others, I think I have nice legs, and at weekends or going shopping I would like to be able to look a little sexy.
Of course at work my skirts are longer as running my own business I need to keep a proper image.
Thoughts anybody
Love
Caroline

Personally I think of mini skirts as something for girls in there twenties or early thirties. My legs look pretty good but if I went out in a mini people would likely wonder if I had lost my mind. 42... you might get away with it but I think it's a little too old. A modestly short skirt would be okay. I have a suit dress which is about 4" above the knee and looks quite fetching while still maintaining the conservatively dressed look I feel appropriate for my age. This is all of course just my opinion.

Hello Carol,
I'm 54 and I like short skirts, but not mini's, like Cassie I think 4-5" above the knee works for me, but then I have skirts and dresses of all lengths. I have one mini skirts tucked away somewhere that I haven't worn in ages. If I remember it's about mid thigh, I should dig it out and see how I look. I think the key here that it all comes down to wearing them at the right time and in the right place. Wearing mini's to work would be pushing it, but when you are out and about having fun in the sun, and it suits you... go for it. I'm of the opinion that if you've got it flaunt it :)

Hi Steph and Cassandra, I appreciate your points, will also be guided by my own comfort level.
I am lucky that I look young for my age so just maybe I can get away with it, I feel I missed out on being young and pretty I regret that.
Thanks

It also depends on social customs of your area.
Here in my area of Wisconsin a mini-skirt goes over well with the twenties and below crowd, but into the thirties or fourties you will get mostly sans smile looks and a few frowns. OTOH my sister who lives in Winter Haven, FL tells me that mini-skirts are common place for women in their fourties, fifties and beyond.
Look around in your area. What seems to be at least somewhat common for your community is usually acceptable. Not that you can't break with accepted norms, but be prepared to draw attention to yourself if you choose to do so.
When it comes to female attire you will also find that women are less cordial than men when you push the limits.

I think mini skirts are for those wow occasions when you are feeling a little flirty and I think it has nothing to do with age as if you are comfortable with that then go for it. Sure you will get some girls and guys that think you may be too old for that kind a thing but I say to them FOOEY!
A sexy mini on a summers day with a nice top can look very appealing but be careful sitting down or bending over cause you might just get more attention from the wrong people than you expected. Of course there are mini skirts and mini skirts. I would choose the longer option.

This would be the thing that caused me to be more careful as to where I was going to be seen wearing the mini skirt. When in dought concider wearing it out of town away from where it may affect your business image. Where no one knows you. Women in business for themselves are their businesses image 24/7. Ask yourself, "Is it worth the loss if that's what it could bring that prevents you from wearing it in the office in the first place." That would be the only issue that prevent me if I were in your shoes. Only your inner voice can really guide you in this issue.

For goodness sake... it's bad enough that many in the TG community spend their lives hiding from the public eye for fear of loosing friends, it will be a cold day in H, E, double hockey sticks before I would leave town to wear a mini skirt.
Today's professional business women often wear mini's (mid-thigh) with a sharply cut, fitted jacket. It exudes confidence and power, as some men find women dressed that way a little intimidating, and that's the way I like it :)

Hi
I have no problem with a skirt suit above the knee, it did not stop me getting my last contract, or did it help?
I was mainly asking for casual wear.
Steph, did you get my last email?

I hope I didn't offend anyone with my reply on this topic. It's just that so many of the members are in constant concern for their jobs or income to be able to continue in transition and SRS eventually. Also that while I don't know what type of work you do, it could present the issues you are just facing with your 20 year long friend. I did not imply not to wear or hide, I simply meant wear it where it will have no impact on how you are percieved by business associates. Stephanie's statement.I think the key here that it all comes down to wearing them at the right time and in the right place. I think this is the same thing just a different choice of words. If you are distracting them by how you are dressed then can they be concentrating on what you business offers them without mixing business with extra corricular activities? I have found that business assoiates are best kept in the business arena. How serious do you want them to take your point of view? This is where my mind frame is coming from in my repy post. Many men do not draw the line here in business. As a female you must tread carefully for it is up to you to make the guide lines appearent for those participating in business with you. Your jokes, your dress, your body language your choice of word all play a roll in this.
Hope this helps,
Smiles,
Peggiann

I agree in public image is everything, people will judge us by how we dress.

I keep the short stuff for the clubs and other intimate get togethers. Other times when I actually do wear a skirt or dress (rarely times indeed) I keep them right above the knee although one of my fave skirts falls about an inch or two below the knee. People always compliment my legs and I figure that the less I show at times, the more curiosity that is generated. ;)

Ok...
Just how long or high up the leg does a skirt have to be to be considered a mini?
For me a mini would be about 4" to 5" above the knee so judging from the comments I think that my idea of a mini may be off.

Yea, some definitions of a mini might better be described as a swimsuit skirt... I HATE those things.

If you hear people quoting the following:
Then your mini might just be a micro. :P
My short dress is one of those that I have to be real careful how I get up on and down off of a barstool or anything else.
QuoteYou got to shave before you leave the house in a dress like that...and I don't mean your legs!
