I suppose that religious leaders should be able to criticize anything that they don't believe covered by their view of what is right and what is wrong. It is their job to raise the questions and objections, however, if anyone is harassed, beaten, sacked from a job, or otherwise hurt, and this hurt can be traced to hate spewed from a pulpit, the person inciting hatred should be brought to accounting.
I wish that churches would leave the business of governing to governing bodies. Marriage is not the provenance of churches. Churches would grant divorces instead of the courts if that was so.
I am rather liberal at heart, and that anyone should have the right to say what they will, in public, provided they are responsible for what they say.
