Hi. I'm nearly 6 months on Estrogen and I knew that one of the side effects could have been some weight gain but due to an improved attitude i've actually lost 10 kilograms, roughly 10% of my body weight, I plan to lose more but i'm taking it slow with achievable goals so i'm not letting myself down if I have a bad day.
Cut to the question. A friend of mine also MTF told me at some point i'm going to want to put on some weight to benefit fat distribution. I'm not sure that I believe her advice so I was hoping to get some other informed opinions. Is weight gain important to MTF transition?

I lost about 20 lbs after about six months on HRT as well, and I maintained that weight for about two years. I have a tendency to eat when I am stressed out or anxious and last year was pretty rough as result I had put on about 25 lbs.
I have lost 18 of those lbs over the last couple of months and my body shape has changed. As an example my jeans now fit smaller around my waist, but my hips and butt have stayed the same size. So in my case your friends advice holds true.

wow! 10kg? That is sooooooo Awesome! I have lost half a stone in the last three months and I would like to lose the other half. Doing so would put me at 10 stone exactly (140lbs) and 1.72m (5'8"). I am only 90 days into HRT, so I am still waiting (and waiting. and waiting) for this "fat redistribution" to occur. Pushing on it does not seem to help either. :icon_rolleyes2:
I have lost a shoe size so I do have some sparkles of hope more changes are in my future. :icon_bunch:

My experience has been Stevie is on to the right idea! There is no such thing as "fat (re)distribution" we all have a fixed number of fat cells in our body but it's the size of/volume of those cells that is changing, they're either "giving up" or "adding on" but your hormonal based metabolism is probably not going to "move around", or do both simultaneously.
My example: I am 6'0" and historically have always been around 185lbs. At one point, when exercising like a dog (at work), I got down to a passing out 165lbs and, being on HRT the whole time, have since regained to a heavier 195lbs but with a much more feminine shape save in the mid-section (tummy area) which I once again need to lose . . . lol but *sigh* being older (and lazier) I know not how!
It was also around this "passing out" time that I changed from taking *spiro*. In constantly perspiring excessively my potassium levels were probably wayyy off the charts! Should also add that later, since stopping AA's entirely, and doing "E only" my breast growth has increased alot!

Hello Chloe2017
My doctor informed me and he has been proved right that when HRT starts to really take effect with noticeable physical changes which in my case was after around 6 months, weight should increase. I started HRT at 68kg (150lbs) and after 9 months was 72.5kg (159lbs).
Weight gain is fine providing it goes to the correct feminine places of course!
Hugs
