Title: Video game brain
Post by: Andrew on January 08, 2008, 10:10:25 AM
Have you ever played a video game so long/often that it's started to affect your brain? I don't mean seeing falling blocks every time you close your eyes, like Tetris - I mean situations where you start mistaking the real world for the game. Robert Coffey wrote in his video game column that his wife was once at the hardware store and he needed to bring her some stuff from their house so she'd know what to buy. He briefly thought: "I'll just teleport them to her," followed by realization of his monumental stupidity.

I've been playing The Sims waaaaaay too much lately - I start thinking about increasing my "relationship points" with people, and then I know it's time to get away from the computer for a while. How about you guys? Have you ever had "video game brain"?

I love the sims! You can litterally waste hours on that bloody game!

Unfortuantely I have never actually had that.

I played a text-based MUD so long once that when I got up the next morning, I actually said "wear robe" out loud as I put my bathrobe on. (You had to type "wear robe" in order to don your armor in the game).

Yes. Being the Final Fantasy freak i am... i kinda forget that if someone dies, i cant just hand them a phoenix down. Damn... science should start making those things already!!

If someone threatens me, i cant just pull out my buster sword and take them out with an omnislash. I could try... but i've heard bad things about prison. I dont own my own dragon. I cant breed this lovely red bird with this green one and get a black one and run over mountains on it. And i cant walk into other peoples houses, open their draws and nick off with their potions.

:-\

Yeah... real life sucks.

I played a lot of Knights of the Old Republic and thought about my actions in terms of turning to light side and dark side.

If I can not feel the presents of another person it bores me, so no, video games do not hold my interest.
