I'm taking the plunge so it makes sense to join your community, hopefully I can contribute something to balance the support I see in these pages. My story is similar to most, and, after a lifetime of living as others wanted, I need to start being true to myself. I doubt I could ever realise my dream, but I need to at least move towards it.

I think I saw that you were looking at a possible GP that is Transgender friendly in Melbourne Australia. If thats true I go to Sven Strecker in Prahran Market Clinic and he is great. He weill even now also prescribe Prometrium (Micronised Progesterone) as well as Oestrogen etc.

I am also based in Victoria, so don't hesitate to PM to me if you need help. I can also recommend a very TG friendly group of beauty therapists in one of the Eastern Suburbs.

     I am so very glad that you have become a member here and this is your very first posting.   I am happy to see that you found the Susan's Place Forums.

    As you post on the forums you will be able to exchange thoughts and comments with others that are experiencing many of the same things that you are.   I expect that you will be getting many members offering their thoughts and suggestions as you continue to post here.

Thanks Judith for your welcoming response! I am based in Geelong, and have struggled to find tg qualified health professionals. I am seeing the only psych I can find with tg experience and registered for medicare. I am lucky to have a full head of hair, which, albeit grey, is currently down to my shoulder blades, and I would love to find a friendly salon in Geelong. There are support groups, but focused on young people, so us oldies seem to be on our own. Like others, I have to balance my development with work and family, as I couldn't bear to lose any of them. Hopefully, with professional help, and support from this forum, I can find a way to make it work for everyone.

Apart from my wife, I have never talked about my issues with anyone else, and already the warmth and support from this first post has made me feel so much less alone. Because of my lifelong struggle, I have never had a close friend, and I get the feeling this might change.

Hi Alli;
Don't hesitate to send PM to me and I can then send you my Email address. My beauty therapists are probably a little far for you to go. However , they are in Templestowe (but right on the 903 Bus Route from Sunshine Station direction towards Mordialloc. You get off at Macedon Square Shopping Centre/Manningham Road. Their web site is http://www.depskin.com. If you are interested ask for treatments by Sarah or Monica. They are very TG friendly and are open Mondays to Saturdays. I have had IPL, Electrolysis, Waxing (including bikini) Facials, make-up advice, Manicures and Pedicures plus Eyebrow tinting and shaping and Eyelash tinting. They are just wonderful and very friendly too.

By the way when you able to present as female, there are a bunch of Lesbian and Bi-sexual meet-up groups that welcome Transgender women that I go to. For instance on Saturday I joined a group of 25 Lesbian & Bi sexual women for a Making pasta and Musically jamming session in Coburg from 2pm to 9.00pm. It was such an affirming experience. However it only acceptable too present as female to these groups.

Thanks so much Judith! Though I'd love to, I doubt I'll be getting out soon. We'll see what my psychologist advises. I really only pretend to be a boy when I'm out of the house or we have guests over, though I doubt I'm fooling anyone who knows me. I work with women, my boss addresses us collectively as girls, and they gave me a women's top. My daughter will only trust her babies to me to look after, much to the annoyance of the natal grandmothers, and she comes to me first for housekeeping and health advice. I raised my two children on my own from nappies to adulthood. I now have grandchildren who adore me, and me them, so I can't do anything which would jeopardise my access to them. But I have a great need to be myself, and this is the challenge for myself and my therapist! My wife is more my soulmate, and she has been supportive while not understanding, and scared of where I may be heading, so I owe her similar support. This means not exposing myself to neighbours and her friends or causing her embarrassment. Meantime I need to find a friendly salon in Geelong and explore my options with my psych.

If I only had myself to consider I would have transitioned decades ago, but now my world is so much more complex. So glad I have found somewhere to talk to others who have real experience.
