Title: May Wig Be Worn For Driver License Picture
Post by: Josephine8Alexandria on February 11, 2019, 03:12:22 AM
Hello all!  :)
Pertaining to Florida:
Okay, I have the court order, the name and gender change on the birth certificate, name and gender change for social security card and records, letters from not one but two doctors and now I am going in to take care of the driver license.  Because I'm 66 and hair partially graying, I wear wigs, usually black but sometimes blond.

I was wondering what the policy is for transgenders wearing wigs for the driver license photo.  I cannot seem to get a clear idea from Google searches.   All I know is the ears must be visible.  (I have a cute black bob hair which I could wear for that. The ears would be visible.)

Many women also wear wigs for hair loss or other reasons.

I've never seen the DMV ask for ears to be visible. Rock whatever hair you want, but use a favorite if possible.  Women reserve the right to change their mind. Guess what. Some women change hair styles every few months.

Some women change their wigs as often as their purses.  Besides, who is going to ask if it is your normal hair unless it is a crazy clown type wig.  I had an old friend I saw a while back and someone commented on how her hair was very pretty since she changed it.  She said, "It's a Wig".   Oh, well, you have very good taste in wigs.  I use to throw on a hat on crazy hair days if I needed to go out before I had a chance to groom it.  I imagine women could do the same and save a lot of time too.

Also keep in mind safe passage letters give a physical description. You use these for passport and drivers license changes.

I would think the answer would depend on the particular state. Here in California, wigs are no problem at all, and no one has ever mentioned my ears being covered by hair.

For US passports, the requirement is, "A picture of how you normally look" or words to that effect. So, wigs are no problem for passports either.

I didn't even ask about it when getting my driver's license photo, and they didn't ask me.  As far as anyone knows, it's my real hair.

Ummmm. That's not your real hair????

😀

I find the more I paid for the wig, the harder it is to spot. Especially with lace and lace front...

:D ;D  Trust me, you don't want to see my real hair.  Or perhaps a better way of putting it is that you might have a hard time finding it.  :D

I am in the same boat...! So, probably the wrong thread to ask this, but how do you deal with exercise that causes significant sweat? Or exercise that requires the use of a helmet? I am a wig-only girl, but it's a total pain for those two scenarios...  :-\

If I am outside the house, I wear either a wig or a hat.  Most of my exercise is dog-walking, so I wear a ball cap or a sun hat in sweaty weather, or a tuque in cold weather.  In spite of my earlier quip, I have enough hair at the back and sides to show curls under a hat.

I am a volunteer firefighter, which can present hair challenges.  At the weekly training meetings, I wear either a tuque or a ball cap, depending on the weather.  It stays on even indoors.  Most of the members are farmers or hillbillies, so wearing a hat indoors is not considered weird.

It's a bit of an issue when getting suited up in the full gear with helmet.  I do a quick change from hat to the flash hood worn under the helmet.  Typically, everyone is too busy getting their own gear on to notice.  And they all know my story anyway.  When I go on a call, I'll stuff my hat into a pocket so that, if I am able to remove my helmet, I can cover my head.
