If it's a "normal" type, I just put my arms through the straps, close the hooks and adjust as needed. A sports type I pull on like a t-shirt and adjust as needed.
Or do you mean the bending down at the waist thing when adjusting things? I myself have found no real advantage in doing it, probably because I'm too slight for it to really seem to matter.

Join the clasps in front, then swing it around so the cups are in front. Easy peasy.

Because of shoulder problems, I have to use the hook and spin method.

I have problems in both shoulders, and can't reach that far behind my back. I close the bra in the front, and do the sinning thing. But I prefer front closure bras or sports bras anyway!

I slip it on like a t-shirt. It's so much easier that way. I clasp it, roll it up, and slip it over my arms and head and get it secured in place as I get dressed. My wifey said she did the same too as a teenager til she figured out how to do it normally. I've already figured out how to take it off while I have a shirt on.

You aren't any less of a woman if you can't do it the normal way.

Same for me! Using hands and arms to hook up at the back takes time and can be a tad painful.

I learned to hook a bra behind my back when I was 12. *ahem* ;D I am still reasonably flexible, so that's how I still do it. Arms through straps; reach back and hook it; done.
Sports bras, I put on like a t-shirt.

I wear sports bras a lot and have no clasps.
I step into the band and pull it up over my torso and bring the straps over my shoulder. It far easier than trying to pull it over my head....

Have you ever seen those old enough to know better cyclists in lycra? Thats me every morning followed by putting on a bra for the day. I change my clothes in the mens room. Normally a convertible t- shirt bra is fastened racerback style with hooks engaged behind my back.

Hook at front, spin, put arms through straps.
I was never dexterous enough for any other method.
I also take it off the same way, arms through my shirt sleeves, slip off bra straps, undo hook, return arms to shirt sleeves and whip bra out from under clothes. Voila!
Lol.
I started doing this so I could get changed in public without removing my shirt but now I do it at night because it means I don't have to remove my shirt and put it back on to sleep lol. I'm sure it's actually no less effort but it feels like it's more efficient than removing the whole tee first.
I'm looking into sports bras for mild binding (I have bad ribs so I have to be careful) but man, they don't have hooks often and I haven't a clue how i'm gonna get those over my fat head or off again. I can picture a great deal of getting stuck and needing assistance.
I mean it'll be comical sure, should give my partner and I some good laughs but long term it's gonna annoy the heck outta me.

I am still flexible enough to clasp a bra behind my back, but don't have the patience. It can take over 15 minutes, because I don't have eyes back there. Hook and spin works for me.

Reach around the back & connect each one at a time.
I have a few racer back bralets and sports bras that I pull over my head and adjust.
Now padded vs. unpadded would be, I think, an interesting topic.

No padding, but I like the push in bra style makes em sit a bit more conventionally.

Does anyone else start using the outer hooks then find that after use over time that you need to move to the next inner row of hooks because of stretching? Maybe then later go to the third row of hooks?
(Other than because of losing weight.)
I used to machine dry my bras on low but I found that was unwise. It is better to let them air dry.

I have 42 B or 40 C breasts. I had a BA with 555 cc mentor gummy bear silicone. The implants are partially under the muscle.
I were sports bras 99%of the time. I have 3 or so conventional bras. If I use them I hook the back and put them on just like a sports bra.
Sports bras are much more comfortable then a conventional bra. also a sports bra is very low profile where as a regular bra has some padding and my tops sometimes do not look right as the area stretches a bit on some tops.
My nipples are pierced so in the gym you can see the piercings through my sports bra and top. At work You can not see the piercings.

I can't believe we all missed this one... >:-) I couldn't help myself!
The correct response is, "With pleasure, Sweetie."
Okay. Kidding aside. putting my bra on is one of the most affirming actions I take every day. With some bras, T-shirt style pullover is suitable, but I find that most of those types don't give me the definition i like to see. Yet for the most part, the front closures are my favorite, with underwire for the definition of course. My current favorites are 'Glamorize Perfect A' in wireless 46A, 'Glamorize Women's Plus-Size Elegance Front-Close Lace Underwire Bra, Print,' 46B and 'Leading Lady Front Closure Racer Back Underwire,' 46A. My fall back for 10 years has been 'Wacoal Basic Beauty,' in 44C; i simply love the cup shape and the little bow/bauble in the decolletage. I'm a sucker for anything I can find in pink... oh yes. Matching panties preferred.
If they have the 'add a cup size' padding it does help to lean over and adjust. I have a hard time finding bands in my size with cups on the smallish side. Large bands with small cups, sigh. Maybe low dose HRT will add a cup or so. I'm happy with 44C or 46B but given my heavy weight I'm not sure what the result will be when I lose 70lbs.
Her is another question. How come my wife refuses to say she wears 'panties' and says 'I wear underwear, not panties' instead? Things that make me go, 'hmmmmm.'

Linde,
I have not thrown out any yet. I think I would donate them to a thrift store, unless for sanitary reasons used bras are not accepted.
What might be more useful is to take bras and other clothing to a clothing exchange for transpeople, if there are such events. I think there should be. As we change size or for other reasons, we may have perfectly good clothing that other trans-women would love to receive and the price would be right! Perhaps some trans-men may like to get some of our old male clothes too!

There is surely a used clothing collection bin somewhere near you. Donate them. If they are in good condition, someone with limited income will get some use out of them.

OK I didn't mean to hijack the post.
After 5 months of HRT I'm a 42c. (Don't get jealous. I developed gynecomastia. I was roughly a 42b. I took this as my body telling me, in addition to dealing with my dysphoria, that I had to transition.)
I'm not full time yet. (Descussed in other posts). When I want to present as Kate, a little padding creates the bust that pushes me far enough to enjoy 'male fail.'
When I have to present as my dead name, Keith, a sports bra that compresses is what I wear.
I do have a couple of padded sports bras which seem to leave people wondering.
I love it.
FYI the absolute best 'male fail' happened a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I were going to a show and she asked me: "What are we GIRLS going to wear?" I froze. I didn't know how to respond to being referred to as a girl by the person who holds the most important relationship in my life. I stammered something. We had a wonderful time that night. But most importantly, there is toleration and some acceptance!
Couldn't be happier.
Kate

I am happy for you kate.
Another thing to mention. I was really small breasted and then had a BA with 555 cm silicone partially under the muscle.
I am a 42B/40C. Sometimes, like today. I did not wear a bra. My breasts need to drop a little so not wearing a bra sometimes when not doing much is an option.

Quote from: jkredman on April 05, 2019, 05:38:16 PMOk Kate now I am jealous male fail AND wife on board! Oh ...and well developed breasts. The trifecta !
Kate

Now padded vs. unpadded would be, I think, an interesting topic.

Padded for me both for enhancement/appearance and for protection.

Hello again Kate
I am truly happy for you. Not only for the mail fail resulting from the padded bras (and other aspects of transition) but most importantly that your wife is showing understanding and acceptance.
You must be so elated at this major step.
Hugs to you and enjoy your weekend.
Pamela xx
