Title: Advice on job-hunting early in transition? (ftm)
Post by: JDtibtabs on April 12, 2019, 10:02:52 PM
Hi folks,

I'm college student and trans guy. Right now I'm looking for a job, and also starting my transition. I haven't started T or changed my name yet, but I'm planning to do as much of that as I can ASAP.

So I have the general problem of, how and when do I come out to employers, and how to explain things?

And then I have another problem because I want to work in childcare--a daycare, nannying, summer camp, or at least babysitting. Being a guy (at least in the daycare setting) and being trans both work against me here, and on top of that I only have a little volunteer experience in this area, which is years old. Do I even have a chance?

Hello and welcome to Susan's place.

I do not know the answer to your question. However, you may want to go to a transman group and ask there. Also, you may want to contact child care companies and ask or write them your questions. There are child care services in the Gayborhood in Philly and I would expect a different level of acceptance there.

After a while on HRT you could be stealth and just deal with the male in child care perspective.

It would be a very edgy angle to have LGBT child care.

Thank you Rachel! I think I will try both of those.
