Story by Michael Searles (29 May 2024)

Private prescriptions of puberty blockers to children will be banned in one of the Government's last acts, it emerged on Wednesday.

No new patients under 18 would be given them if they were experiencing gender dysphoria, the Department of Health and Social Care said.

The NHS stopped giving the blockers to children following the publication of a highly critical report into gender identity services for children by paediatrician Dr Hillary Cass last month.

Victoria Atkins, the Health Secretary, said following the report's publication that doctors who try and break the rules face being struck off.

She announced her intention to implement the ban a day after Rishi Sunak called the general election.

The emergency ban, introduced on Wednesday, will be in place from June 3 to September 3 and will also apply to prescriptions written by UK private prescribers and prescribers registered in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

The UK is now rated below the US in in equality as defined by Equaldex

The government knows this is a travesty of the emergency ban powers as it should only be used to prevent death or extreme injury. Whereas this ban could increase deaths and injuries by forcing trans children to go through puberty in the wrong gender.

It is also illegal as the same medication is perfectly safe to be used on cis children and the ban is only for blockers used by those that are trans.

This breaks the 2010 equality act that defines gender reassignment as a protected characteristic and cannot be discriminated against.

However, as we do not have a parliament until the general election it cannot be contested.

How low, hateful, and despicable can this UK government go and the next government will be the same regardless who gets in.
