Eighty years ago, the liberation of Europe from the horrors of the Nazis began with Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. Nearly 200,000 thousand soldiers, principally Americans, Brits and Canadians, landed on June 6, 1944, across five beach sectors.
Malcolm Brabant is in northern France and met some of the veterans of D-Day.

The National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY has a C-47 known as "W7". It's a D-Day vet and they flew her back over for the 70th anniversary.

@Lori Dee @CynthiaR
Both the W7 and C47 are variants of the McDonald Douglas DC-3 passenger airplane
from the 1930's and 1940's

The ol' gal is still flying. You can book rides in it and every year at the airshow they hold, they drop paratroopers in WWII vintage gear. They'll usually also have the P51's flying cover as well.
