    World-wide internet outages yesterday... July 19, 2024

Yesterday's "world wide" internet outages that raised havoc with banking, airlines, and general internet connectivity for
many users was caused by one company Crowddstrike...
... The "story" was that they were doing an ***update to their software ***and while doing that the update went *"sideways" *      This is why I am always leery regarding updates without having all of my ducks in a row. ... and having data back up provisions.
That may be why I was with spotty internet coverage for a lot of the day yesterday that caused me to have problems with posting various comment replies.

Do not IT people believe in and conduct thorough testing before releasing software?
They should.  This was a preventable error.

I ask the same thing every time Microsoft releases an update that screws up my computer. Then I have to spend hours removing all the things I don't need because I already uninstalled or never had the devices they are loading software for. Then turning off all the "Features" that no one ever requested but we get to have anyway.

I asked an IT tech about this and specifically, "Don't they have beta testers for this?" He laughed and said, "You're it." The Microsoft Forums are full of complaints about the same issues going back for several years, yet we get an update every month.  ???

The company is actually called Crowdstrike - not cloud as reported above and given in the search URL..

When doing stuff like this we always pushed to test platforms first and monitored for at least 24 hours. I guess someone made a critical error - and will be seeking work elsewhere, I presume? shame. Probably shows you that our last act as a species will not be war, or trying to survive asteroids.. it will be some guy, late on a Thursday night, who has not had enough coffee for the stupid hours he just put in and goes 'Yeahh.. what's the worst that can happen'... I just hope they remember to turn off the lights.

@SoupSarah
Dear Sarah:
Thank you for the correction. This morning when I submitted my posting, my fingers
were typing faster than my coffee starved brain was thinking.

I have now corrected my posting....... thank you very much for assisting.

I always resist doing updates. Seams after so long of saying remind me later the computer or phone just does them anyway. Then things are screwed up for a week as every program has to update to keep up.
