Title: I really dislike spam calls.
Post by: ChrissyRyan on September 12, 2024, 07:45:21 AM
I really dislike spam calls.  Do you get them?

It has got to the point that I do NOT answer my telephone unless I know who is calling.
I might miss on a rare occasional a live call I should have answered but it is worth it to let a call go to voicemail.

Then I block the spam caller.  My list of blocked callers seems so long.  I wonder if I should delete that list and start over?  Probably many would not call again from the original telephone number.  This list must take up some memory on my telephone.  The same list apparently applies to text messages.  There are separate ignore or block lists for emails though.

RoboKiller is a great app for smartphones. I used it for about a year then stopped. During that time, the app was flagging calls as spam or junk and reporting them automatically. Over time, the spammers start removing your number from their database. So now those calls are rare.

I still get calls from Police Support charities and political parties, both still calling me < deadname >. I tell them no one is here by that name and to remove my number. They don't. They call back every so often.

Over the years, I have filed numerous FCC and FTC complaints against spammers.
Placing telemarketing calls to wireless phones is - and always has been - illegal in most cases. (https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/wireless-phones-and-national-do-not-call-list)
It got to be a lot of work and using RoboKiller made it quick and easy.

Chrissy

It depends. If someone calls and I think it's like a survey or a spam call, I'm like "Can you hold on a sec?" Then I put the phone on the sofa and watch TV for an hour. They're paying for it.

That is funny.  Ties up your line though if someone is trying to get ahold of you.
