Title: Making a decision to make a decision

Recently, I received a gender dysphoria diagnosis. I have been on hormones for five years and my therapist has provided a letter that states gender-affirming surgery is medically necessary. My primary care physician has co-signed the letter. I have a new insurance plan that takes effect on 1/1/25 and covers gender dysphoria treatments (including medically necessary GAS surgeries). The plan has an out-of-pocket max that removes any financial obstacles.
After the new year, I am scheduling a consultation with Dr Gabriel Del Corral in Washington DC to discuss a vaginoplasty using the Peritoneal Pull-Through method. I know someone who has had this surgery with him and have seen the impressive results of Dr. Del Corral's work.
While a final decision to move forward with this surgery has not been made yet, I have accepted that I need to make this decision. It is both terrifying and exhilarating but feels less scary as each day passes. I can't wait any longer. The time to decide is now.

Good luck in making your decision. I made my choice and have been thrilled with the results.

Congratulations Zoey,
Good luck on your decision. I'm sure you will find the right doctor. I had the fortune of talking with others, who had used the same doctor, (Jonathan Keith) to help my decision. Strange, I felt so confident with him I never had a consult with any others. He also used peritoneal tissue for some of the lining which works great for lubercation. Coming up on 6 months post op now. No big 'O' yet but very sensate. I have had 2 other surgeries since then which puts my mind on healing rather than self exploration. A rhynoplasty and a total hip replacement. Good luck.
Hugs Gina

I just finished my initial phone call and emailed all required documentation to Dr Del Corral. I hope to have a confirmed date for my consultation soon. I'm feeling less anxious and more excited.

Thanks Gina - I plan to write them down while I'm waiting for the appointment and bring the list so I don't forget anything.

Hoping for this to happen quickly but I'm guessing it will be a few months.

Just wanted to drop an update...
The process for getting consultations scheduled has been slow and tedious but there is finally some progress.
I'm schedule to do a video consult with Dr Del Corral on 6/9. I was originally scheduled for an in-person consult on 8/25 but after asking a ton of questions I was able to get this moved up by offering to do a virtual consult.
After three weeks, I was finally able to get a consult scheduled with Dr Stranix at the University of Virginia on 5/21. Even though my insurance only requires one therapy letter, they required two before scheduling a consult. Luckily, I started with another therapist this year and they quickly provided the 2nd letter required by UVA.
I have already met with one other surgeon from DC who will remain nameless. Lots of red flags and he is not even on the list for consideration.
