Title: Welcome to Winter up north and Summer down below
Post by: ChrissyRyan on December 21, 2024, 06:09:27 PM
I hope you enjoyed your first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere or the first day of summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

Appropriately, we had a winter storm warning and 20cm of snow yesterday.  It is still snowing lightly this morning.

I heard there is a postal workers strike in Canada.

I hope your country's postal mail is resumed soon and there is a fair resolution to the labor strike.

The dispute was sent to arbitration, so they are back at work for now.

Maybe it will be resolved in a short amount of time.

Heard that there is now a growing influx of immigrants that wish to go INTO Canada as opposed to going south into the USA and that illegal movement in either direction is often very difficult to control in some regions of the Canada USA border.  However more electronic measures are being employed than ever.

Also heard the fuel is cheaper in most of the USA border cities than in the Canadian border cities, yet the USA gets lots of oil from Canada.

I live in a border town and gas on the US side is cheaper than in Canada I filled up Saturday and I paid 27 US which is aprox 39 Canadian where if I went to the First nations gas station which is cheaper than other Canadian gas stations I probably would have paid over 50.Though not much else is cheaper for groceries I usually only shop for stuff we can't get in Canada like chex mix or similar.

Unfortunately I can't see going back to the US anytime soon. With the up coming trade war and what some will see as open season on the trans community I just can't see the value. Also we can't forget the deporting of those who produce the food growing in the US is going to drive prices up even more. I fear for the safety and well being of my American Friends.

It isn't just the US I am worried for, we have our own Temu Tyrant just drooling at the chance to take power.

Getting back to the topic of winter/summer, we have another Special Weather Statement for snow tomorrow.  The next county over has a Snowfall Warning.  The difference is that they are getting 15-25 cm, while we are only getting 5-15 cm.  I'll still have to shovel or snow-blow it.  :(

White Christmas? Humbug!

Here in the temperate south of Australia, we are expecting 90F for Christmas Day and 105F for Boxing Day, with bushfires out of control in many places. We are getting used to seeing the sun as orange through the smoke. Thankfully, I live in a low fire risk area near the beach!

Hugs,

Allie

Hi All

I'm fair skinned and get sunburned quiet easily.  So trading 'sunburn' is not on the table!

I can get sunburn even when there's no sun. Not even kidding. I think I'm part vampire. :-\  I think that's why I have issues with summer lol
