Is a (USA) hot dog a sandwich?
In the USA it is served with a hot dog bun that is split open from the top but the bun is still connected at its bottom.
In some parts of Europe it may be served differently I hear.

No a sandwich is 2 slices of bread with a filling. The traditional hot dog is eaten in a bread finger or long bun. It is possible to have hot dogs between 2 slices of bread though!

The hotdog bun is similar to a sub bun but I have never really considered a hotdog a sandwich.
But man now I want hotdogs.

Any more votes on this matter? Is a hot dog a sandwich or is it not?

No. It is not served between bread. It is served on a bun.
In the same way, a hamburger is not a sandwich. ;D

Would food served in a hoagie roll be a sandwich?

Lori,
So a beef patty served in between a split bun is a burger is not a sandwich, but the same meat served between two slices of bread is a sandwich?

Yes!
Ironically, I ordered a roast beef sandwich in Germany. I expected to be able to pick it up and eat it with my hands. Nope. It was served "open face," which I do not consider a sandwich. It is missing half of the bread!
In the Army, they served us SOS (S*** On a Shingle) for breakfast. It is basically creamed meat over a slice of bread. Nobody ever called it an open-face sandwich.
I can't handle all this controversy. ;D

Did the creamed meat over a slice of bread taste good?

Did they have the practice of "Eat all you want, but eat all that you take"?
Could you ask for a double helping the first time you get food or did you have to show you ate all of the first helping first?

Yes, but I rarely had time.

We had an hour, but my duties had me busy enough that I only took a half hour. As the Operations Sergeant, I coordinated our unit's training and the "experiments" we did while testing new weapons systems. Very often, I worked 14-hour days for months at a time.

No. And it was a good thing, too. Sometimes what they served
