Title: Is there a good looking privilege?
Post by: ChrissyRyan on February 15, 2025, 08:02:36 PM
Do you think there is a good looking privilege?  That is, if a person is pretty or handsome, that person may receive opportunities not given to those who are not as good looking?

This could be trivial like getting away with some minor things or larger in terms of being able to get a job quickly?

Let's eliminate the job situations where good looks is very much expected, perhaps models.

Yes, I think there is a pretty privilege.

But there are so many other more important and cherished attributes of people.

The way people are in the world, Chrissy, there are probably at least a hundred different kinds of privilege.

That's about other people more that it is about you.

The important things about people are, I suspect, the things what you're talking about which mean the least.

          Food for thought and truths in the following quotations:
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
I prefer intellect and charm. Good looks only take you so far.
-Angie Everhart-
In today's society, looking good and feeling good often trumps doing good and being good. And some people don't know the difference anymore.
-Ravi Zacharias-
Cute is when your personality shines through your looks.
-Natalie Portman-
'You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.'
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe —
Don't worry about looking good - worry about achieving your goals.
-Ray Dalio-
What matters is how you feel inside, because feeling beautiful on the inside is key to looking good.
-Oprah Winfrey-
I try to keep in my mind the simple question: Am I trying to do good or make myself look good? Too many of our responsibilities get added to our plate when we are trying to please people, impress people, prove ourselves, acquire power, increase our prestige. All those motivations are about looking good more than doing good.
-Kevin DeYoung-
There's this unbelievable bias and prejudice against quote-unquote good-looking people, that they can't be in pain or they can't have rough lives or be deep or interesting.
-Rob Lowe-
There was a time when I thought so. But back in the 90's I became friends with Amanda Paris. She is really into physical fitness and I met her at a Health & Wellness convention. She was not one of the presenters, just a gal checking out the vendor booths and attending the seminars. She changed my mind.
She explained that because many people believe there is such a privilege, they automatically assume that you are using it to your advantage. A beautiful woman works her way up the corporate ladder and people assume she slept her way to the top. Because of this, they must work harder to show their hard work instead of their legs or cleavage.
She said she has had to constantly watch how she behaves in normal situations just to avoid those types of appearances. She waits in line like everyone else, even when offered to move to the front.
She said that she had a very hard time dating too. People assume that she has suitors knocking on her door 24/7 so they would not be worthy to ask her out. Or that she would be too busy to have time to date. Consequently, no one was asking her out.
I don't doubt that the privilege exists for some. However, I have developed my own philosophy to not judge others because it is impossible for me to know all the details of their life situation.
Yes I truly believe that there is a pretty privilege. However, just because someone receives a privilege, it doesn't mean that they are doing anything to receive said privilege, sometimes some people just give it to them. As well, just because one gets a privilege doesn't mean that everything in life is easier for them, it's just that some people will give them some things, some of the time, for no other reason that _______ privilege, in this case pretty privilege.
Yes without doubt, it can be a two way street, looking after your figure, and the re enforcement from others, such as arnt you going to do anything with your hair? Some days I just ruffle my hair and go out. Comments usually come back such as "Have you just fallen out of bed?" We dont see bill board pictures of average looking women, or over weight woman, so there are social constraints that go with looks. When I am out with friends guys will ask me what I want to drink, or insist upon paying for my meal. Thats just my own experience,
