Susan's Place Transgender Resources

Hey Susan's place fam, I'm a sis male married to my lovely and beautiful transgender wife, we met and married prior to her coming out as transgender; since then she's made a social transition and started on HRT about 16 months ago.

So I'm here to help her with research and resources and of course because I'm an ally. I would've signed up sooner if I knew this place existed.

Luckily her employer's health insurance covers gender affirming care and its surgeries; while she wasn't in a rush before to have any surgeries performed, we're now re-prioritizing it due to the possibility of Trump outlawing gendering affirming care or it's insurance coverage in the future via executive action.

I'm looking forward to exploring the site more, leveraging your resources for our research and engaging with you all in discussion.

I see that other members of Susan's have also welcomed you as well.

It's wonderful to see you here supporting your wife.  Having a strong, understanding partner truly makes a difference and your dedication to researching and advocating for her well being is admirable.

You brought up some concerns about potential changes to gender affirming care coverage under the current administration.  While it's completely normal to want to act swiftly, I encourage you both to make sure all the necessary paperwork, approvals and plans are sorted out before making any final calls.  Jumping into surgery without thorough preparation can lead to added stress or complications.

If insurance coverage ends up being a problem, there are options overseas.  Many folks have travelled internationally for care, with countries like Thailand offering well established surgical procedures and highly skilled surgeons.  These alternatives often remain available regardless of US policy shifts and might even be more economical.

When it comes to executive orders, they mainly impact federal agencies and programs like Medicare and Medicaid.  Private insurance plans and state level protections might not see immediate effects, but an executive order can still influence regulations, federal funding and employer provided plans in ways that could limit access.  Private insurers typically align with federal guidance, so changes at that level can create ripple effects.

You and your wife are definitely on the right track by doing your research and planning ahead.  Susan's Place has a wealth of resources and many here are eager to share their experiences.  Don't hesitate to ask questions, check out available resources and connect with others.  You're in good company here.  In addition members of Susan's will more than likely will discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these issues as well.

Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the other forums and threads.  I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members

Susan, to say I support my wife is an understatement, she is the beacon of light in my life and seeing her blossom into her genuine self bring so much joy to my life ❤️

I know you're right about how far executive power should reach but as I watch the news it seems there's almost no limit to what they're willing to do and private companies like google are yielding to just their influence alone.

May I ask what you had in mind for the necessary paperwork, approvals and plans? While she is of course under the care of a gender affirming care physician, she has never seen a mental health care professional in her life, we're trying to get her set up for an appointment with one now as I think that's a requirement for the insurance to cover the surgery but we're having some difficulties (I can't reach any of the Psychologists specializing in transgender health by phone or email).

Honey, it is rare for spouses to come to places like this to want to understand. Much less support. Thank you for being here, for wanting to learn and understand what your other half is going through. That takes kind of a special person.
