Title: Big Movies You Hated!
Post by: Alexandra on February 28, 2006, 12:40:06 AM
Since we're in a movie mood I thought we could list the BIG Hollywood productions we hated!

Lord of the Rings (all of them)
Harry Potter (yep, all of them)
Star Wars (4, 5 and 6th or parts 1, 2 and & 3)
Indepencence Day
Pearl Harbor
Deep Impact
Big Smash!
Big Monster!
Big Slasher!
Big Action Figure Hero!

LOL!

I don't care for any of these action-type big productions from Hollywood.

Whats on your PLEASE NO MORE list?

Independence Day says it all - a triumph of form over substance. All those really good special effects only served to show up how totally crap the movie was.
I hate to say this but Independence Day is a good example of the standard of BIG Hollywood productions

TOP OF MY PLEASE NO MORE list

The "Australian Wheat Board Scandel"  this total beat up dominates all our news for some unaccountable reason.  Obviously the AWB supplied billions of $ to Saddam and enabled him to do all sorts of evil.

Why wont they shut up :(   I dont know of anybody who cares or is even remotely interested

The Clonus Horror (1979) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078062/).

That one even MST3K could not save.

ALL THE STAR WARS MOVIES!! It is my dream that one day we will stop talking about Star Wars! Others that come to mind are:

The Matrix movies: They stole so much from a better but little know movie called Dark City.
The Scary movies: Stupid, dumb, stoner comdey.
Troy: Just read the post I made in the PMS zone for my reasoning on that one.
Kill Bill 1: This is a great of example of a movie that was all action and NO STORY which I just hate! I heard that the 2nd one had more story in it, but if I didn't like the first one why would I see the 2nd?

There are some many others but those are the ones that come to mind.

The Blair Witch Project---  What a joke! A few years ago a former neighbor rented it & I went over to watch it with him.  He kept on saying how it was a scary movie, yada, yada, yada....  and the whole time I watched it I kept thinking to myself, "OK, when's the scary part gonna' start?"

Though i am not particularly a fan of scary movies.....

Barbara Streisand's YENTL!

I actually paid money for that dog and I still regret it!

All those BIG movies?  Mediocrity served on a colorful platter designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I do like the Lord of the Rings movies in that I've always loved the books (I even got to take a lit course in college about them and Tolkien's other works!) and I can see they did too even if the effects were a bit too much at times.  It annoyed me when their visions of what Tolkien wrote looked better than the ones I imagined!  And too much was cut!

And CHICAGO was not worth a Best Picture Oscar, by a loooooong shot.  Even if Richard Gere is still a hottie!

well, you did ask!

Lord of the Rings
Hunt for Red October

both of these put me to sleep really quickly.

Waterworld (a big movie in regards to production cost)
Something About Mary

these just totally bored me to death. well, almost death since I'm still here.

btw, I loved Chicago!

Every single Lord of the Ring movies (all of the dwarf tossing jokes made me want to toss the screenwriters right off the edge of a cliff)
Star Wars 1 and 2.  After those two disasters I did not watch part 3.
Last Action Hero or whatever with Arnold
Waterworld
Underworld:  Evolution
Big Fat Greek Wedding
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Mission Impossible movies
The Net
Hackers
It's a Wonderful Life
Fight Club
The Kevin Costner Robin Hood
Spinal Tap

Highlander 2 and 3 Did the writers even look at the first Highlander Movie? And don't get me started on the TV show.

Starship Pooper, I mean Trooper.
Battlefield Earth

Do any of these writers ever read the fricken book?

Tess of The Durbervilles (yawn)

I'm sure there are plenty more but I try to forget bad things.

Ok I have come up with some more.

-A Series of Unfortunet Events: Altough after I saw this moive I did want to read the books and after reading them I HATED THE MOVIE!
-I'm not sure if it was considered a "big" movie but The Relic: This is based off of a book by my two favortie authors and the movie didn't even involve the main character from the book!
-Romeo & Juliet (the leonardo de caperio version): This movie is an insult to Shakespeare!

I'm not sure if it was considered a "big" movie

Generally, a "big hollywood movie" is a production that wasn't hampered by a lack of $$$ -- the production team had the dough and made turkey instead. I'd say this amount is about $25 million by now.

A bare bones Hollywood production is about $5 million these days and the script better be good because there won't be money left to show higher production values on the screen. Films made for between 5 to 25 million is kind of a balancing act -- containing cost vs spending extra for higher production values.

Bad films made for under $5 million are sometimes difficult to judge . . . did they run out of money or is it bad because they couldn't hire the people they really wanted or was it botched filmmaking?  With big Hollywood productions, there should be NO EXCUSES!   So when a turkey is made, we should jump all over it.

Crazy budgets for "blockbusters" really chaps my hide. You can take that same $300 million used for an idiotic blockbuster and make 12 really good $25 million dollar films instead.

Ok I have more:

-Resident Evil (I never really liked the games, and this movie really didn't have anything to do with them anyway. I just thought it was stupid)
-Jay and Silent Bob Strick Back (As much as I like Kevin Smiths movies, I just thought this one was dumb and not all that funny)
-Land of the Dead (Nothing at all like the orignal dead movies)
-Walking Tall (As much as I think The Rock is HOT, I was really disappointed with this movie. It was way to short)

I'll come up with more.

"Titanic" springs to mind...it took nearly as long for the ship to sink in the movie as it did in real life, LOL!  An unconvincing portrayal of a world-wise, heterosexual artist by Leonardo DiCaprio.  Frankly, he couldn't sink to the ocean floor quickly enough for me!

Saving Private Ryan just popped into my head here.

In a movie that was touted as being realistic, there was no reason to make the Americans look good by making the Germans looks stupid, especially when that was not the case at all.

I think that movies that set out to have a basis in fact - should try to be based on fact as much as possible.

I think the movie "Pearl Harbor" with Ben Afleck was terrible.  What was Jerry Bruckheimer thinking when he produced this garbage?

"Enemy of the State" was also pretty dumb.  Had great actors, but there was no real plot to the storyline.  Everything in it was based around technology, much of which does not exist in the way they portray it.  Especially the part where they take an existing 2 dimensional video clip from the lingerie store and flip it around on a computer screen to show the scene from another angle?  Yeah right!!!

Thought "Super Troopers" was way too silly for me to get into it.

Especially Raising Arizona. Not only hate it, abhore it. Those that talk about it just sound dumber than dirt. Absolutely a worthless movie that celebrates stupidity.

The English Patient. Why I ask. Why?

Tears of the Sun. One Bruce Willis movie I just had to prematurely ejectulate.

This movie is very gross. This movie is horrible. The movie is a disgrace to the movie industry. I am so glad that I had got this cheap. I will be getting rid of it. It would be an insult to my dvd collection for me to keep this video. This movie is a waste of everything used to make this movie. It was also a big waste of my time. "Howard the Duck" was better than this. This movie was just flat out horrible.!!!! I used to collect GPK stickers I thought they were cool. To see this movie I am just apalled I didn't know there was a movie out there so horrible..
BTW they gave it a impossibly rare 1 out of ten.

Brokeback Mountain. I might catch some flack for this, but I thought the storyline was underdeveloped, and that "true love" everyone talks about the film depicting is B.S.! I saw no true love... just 2 guys who liked fishing and f****** together... and destroying the lives of their poor wives. Good acting, but that was about it. I just felt so sorry for the women in the film.

Nobody take this as a knock against gay men... that's not what I'm saying at all. But there are much better gay male movies out there, like the British film Beautiful Thing, which I recommend to anyone.

I love Lake Placid! And Spiderman 1&2. However, I often find it's the little-publicized films that end up being some of the best, like a flick that came out last year called Pretty Persuasion. It's not for the faint of heart or overly moralistic, but it's a great movie.

National Treasure.  My parents loved the movie, so I don't know what my problem was.  The whole thing just seemed sort of wishy washy.  The "adventure" was plodding, and there weren't many interesting visuals.  Plus, there was the silly gee-whiz patriotism that they laid on a little thick.

But worst of all was Sean Bean, as the friendliest villain in any Bruckheimer movie.  I really love Sean Bean, and he was just wasted here.

I really hated Snakes on a Plane, too.  It wasn't a big production, but most of the internet thought it'd be all hilarious, but it didn't have the courage of its convictions.  It was often too serious to live up to the promise of its title.  I caught myself thinking "I sure hope they get off this plane soon and do something interesting.  Oh, wait, this is the whole movie."  I was so bored.

so I will take you back into time.
I hate all the movies where the blonde bimbo falls in front of the monster...

I hate movies wherein the guy "I" think is the hero..dies.

say what?  damn-it-jim.......I like the dude man.
not cool.
I hate black movies that feel it is okay to use derogatory names against whites,, but whites are not allowed to call THEM names?  NO! no 2 sets of rules.

The Matrix(all): Pseudo-profound, plot holes everywhere.

I Am Legend: The zombies/vampires looked awful, the plot didn't make much sense, it was boring and the only redeeming factor was Will Smith's ability to act.

I hate just about every single "must-see" comedy that comes out like, The 40-year Old Virgin, Paul Blart, Tropic Thunder, Napolean Dynamite, Zoolander, Spinal Tap, etc.

Occasionally, a really good one comes along but they are all rehashing the same old, tired, and dumb jokes. And to add insult to injury, you have people reciting their favorite lines from these mindless, garbage films ALL DAY LONG!

Also, I did not like The Dark Knight. It was waaay over-hyped, too long, completely improbable, plus the coolest villian didn't come out until the very end of the film AND THEN THEY KILL HIM OFF!!, and I think the guy who played Batman did permanent damage to his voice. I wanted to give him a lozenge every time he spoke.

Casino Royale was a stinker too.

Napolean Dynamite - What the hell was that? I guess I am one of those who didn't get it. Or so I have been told.

Cloverfield - Again, what the hell was that? When people get sick because of your camera work, the movie is bad.

Lord of the Rings...  As they said on Clerks II, walking, walking, walking... Even the friggin' trees walked. A single 3 hour movie would have been okay.

Any Bond film. Cool toys and hot girls can't save a dog.

Mission Impossible Movies... Even the theme music was bad!

I'm pretty sure there WASN'T any point to Napoleon Dynamite.

And while we're on the subject (lol), what's up with all the terrible Judd Apatow movies and their overnight success? I saw Superbad, Knocked Up, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall... all were horrendous! I spotted Jonah Hill while in West Hollywood one night about a year ago, and honestly, I felt like beating the crap out of him for being in even ONE of those movies!

That said, I must say I totally enjoyed Pineapple Express. Perhaps it's the stoner in me.

The Dark Knight

Movie jumped around every 10 sec and everything seemed choppy. Just when I thought it was over... It continued for another agonizing 45 mins.

And I know it isn't because Heath died, because they had finished filming it.

I listen to alot of audio books. I bought the unabridged version of Upton Sinclaire's "Oil"
and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed the insightful narrative history of both sides of the
labor vs. management struggle of the early twentieth century. So, I assumed that the
movie adaptation would certainly have to at least half as good. I was oh so very wrong.
The movie was a complete abomination. In my opinion the director was attempting
to cash in on the anti big oil sentiment at the time of production and release and cared
nothing at all about the conscientious retelling of such an awsome story. Do not waste
your time or money on this piece of trash. IMHO

Okay... I love Dirty Dancing, but mostly because Jennifer Grey was just so cute, crooked nose and all.

However, I forgot about the biggest flop of recent days... Twilight! What the f*** were they thinking?!?! I love Kristen Stewart, and she was gorgeous in the film, but for the love of god... vampire families? How overused is that plot? And I'm not sure if the book is written as badly, but the script was so juvenile it seemed written for elementary schoolers.

The only good reason, in my opinion, to watch Twilight is for Kristen Stewart. Just do yourself a favor and mute the audio.

I have yet to see a movie which makes me think its worth watching again or enjoy it.

9/10, I usually see a movie I wish I hadn't seen and it is boring as hell.

Hollywood is just catering to recycling everything they have done (both the past and now) to higher quality video with better special effects, that is it =/

Most are either boring or just over-hyped, and when you actually see it... you wonder why the hell you bought or saw it.

My favorites are:

Kung-Fu Panda and the SAW series, though SAW is beginning to turn into that "Let's keep beating that dead man until he's dead!"

Jumper.  That was one of those movies that had a cool concept (he can teleport himself at will, but there is a group of people who think that people like him are evil and they're trying to kill him), but really sucks because all the characters are unlikeable and shallow.

Transformers. Maybe I had to be a fan to appreciate it, but I couldn't help but want to leap through the screen and headbutt the protagonist in the groin. On top of that, it really didn't hold my interest at all.
I'll admit, the special effects were pretty amazing, but that's all it really had going for it. Maybe that was the whole point.

I just loved that red dress, was there anything else in the movie :D

Titanic- awful

Starship Trooper, great book but? What did all of the insects live on? DuHH

I've now given up on the movies. I rent the DVD but never bother with the theatre.

I hate people (well that's a start). What I meant was I hate people in the movie theatre opening packages, eating popcorn loudly, having to go to the toilet every 5 mins. Talking. Bouncing their head up and down, for whatever reason ;), the noise level, I'm not deaf but will be if I keep going to movies and concerts.

They never seem to realise when I'm there, I'm the only person that matters. :D

The movie I hate the most is Dances With Wolves.  I hate it in a big-theme way, and in a small-theme way.  On the one hand, the film seems to be sympathetic to the plight of Native Americans; but on the other hand, it made a gazillion dollars by exploiting the plight of Native Americans, so it's hypocritical.  Had Costner donated a piece of the film towards improving the lives of the descendants of the people whose misery he exploited, I wouldn't hate him (and the film) so much.  Also, we got the message when the whites killed the wolf, we didn't have to be pummeled with the same message when they killed the horse too.

Alexander - More tripe than a Blackpool butchers, awful accents (looking at you Jolie) and waste of talent

LOTR (Any of them) - Massively over-rated, much like the books

Jumper - Great idea, lousy plot

Species - Great tits, lousy plot

Event Horizon and Sunshine - Could have been wonderful, original sci-fi movies.  Worse, the first half of the films are really good and full of promise, which makes the subsequent descent into utter pap all the more disappointing.

I don't think this is a big movie. In fact, I don't even know it's name. It has Steven Segal or whatever in it.  I hate all his movies anyway but my roommate likes them.

The other day I came in and watched segal kick and punch a bunch of people around. He took his victims' weapons and used them against the poor slobs. Then there was a scene where a bunch of mob bosses were acting all tough about what to do. I wasn't impressed at all.

My roomie left the room so I put on a Clark Gable, Myrna Loy, William Powell movie from 1936. There was a scene where these mob guys were in a room and they confronted this other guy who came in. It was mesmerizing. Gripping.

Just as the scene was culminating, my roomie comes in and switches back to segal. There was a whole lot of drama and stuff, but I felt nothing. NOTHING I TELL YOU!!!!

I may have to wait another 40 years to see that gable movie again and find out what they did with the guy who owed them all money.

Big stars you HATE HATE HATE!!!!!

All right, I'm resurrecting a thread because this movie is bad enough to warrant it.

G.I. Joe.  My god.  I'd like to know who sold their soul to Satan to make that piece of crap.  Hands down, the worst movie I've seen EVER.  My expectations were super low and it still disappointed me.  I'd rather sit through Wolverine and Transformers 2 twice than sit through that again.  I could have written a better movie than that.  Even kids wouldn't be able to get into it...the action was horrendous.  If they had just let it be campy, it would have been all right, but they tried to be serious with it.  I'd also like to know if Jonathon Price lost a bet or what...he's way too good for this movie.

Don't see it.  It'll rape your childhood.

*special note: It was a double feature at the drive-in with Inglorious Bastards.  I would never have seen it otherwise. :D

I'll take big movie as meaning it made it to theatres.

Eragon. Now lots of people might not have liked the book, I liked it but it was probably for the dragon. But anyone who's read it and seen the movie knows how severely butchered the movie was.

Watchmen. I supposed I should've known something was wrong when the theatre trailer had a Muse song playing.

Cloverfield made me sick.

Couldn't stop laughing during the Dark Knight. He tried too hard with the voice.

The last Indiana Jones was weird. Not in the good way.

And Saw, I liked the idea and the first few but they're going downhill now and these people just don't know when to quit. Jigsaw's dead, don't tell me he swallowed a tape before he died and he has yet ANOTHER helper. And now they're coming out with a sixth.

Hey, the Species movies were cheesy but I liked them. They were kind of funny ("you don't want the tongue.") Although I gotta say, alien sex still haunts me.

Yeah, I'm done.

The most recent X Files film...I found the story was gratuitously dark and
grissly, and more like the premise for a regular(if sinister) cop moive. with the plot line encompassing child abuse, and savage mutilatory surgeons with
horrific uses for cleaved body parts...the film left me wishing I had not seen it, and dint want the images in my mind afterwards. Significant in their absesce were greys of any height, saucers whenther flying or hidden under ice/sand/at temple/a special ray, and certainly no smoking man...maybe he found some gum....Hopefully if Agents Mulder and scully do return to the silver screen, it will be with the same mystery and awe that they first grabbed our interest.
