Trump's Order on Trans Athletes Likely Targets 160 or Fewer Teens Nationwide

... Before signing his Executive Order, Trump said that trans athletes have won "more than 3,500 victories" in women's sports and "invaded more than 11,000 competitions." He did not cite where he got this information, and Teen Vogue could not find backup for his claims.

So, how many trans athletes does his Order actually affect? Based on available data, along with Teen Vogue's own reporting, Trump's Order likely targets fewer than 160 of the more than 8 million student athletes in the country.

Though Trump's Order says it aims to "protect opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports," Noreen Farrell, executive director of Equal Rights Advocates, calls that disingenuous.

"While the administration claims this order 'protects women,' it actually serves as a distraction from the real, urgent threats facing young people across the country, including denied access to reproductive health care like abortions, bans on gender-affirming healthcare, and policies forcing schools to violate student privacy about LGBTQ+ status," said Farrell in a statement emailed to Teen Vogue shortly after the Executive Order was signed. "The suggestion that we must exclude students to protect women's sports promotes harmful stereotypes while ignoring the actual challenges facing women's athletics, like chronic and discriminatory underfunding of women's sports, recruitment, scholarships, and coaching."

Sorry, I feel like Debbie Downer here, posting this, but I think we are all better off knowing this in the long run.  Otherwise we will look foolish or disingenuous spouting mis-information.

I could not find a single source document. They list a bunch of names, make a bunch of untrue claims (under the Myths category), and provide zero evidence to back it up.

Under "Resources" they list anti-trans organizations and legislation, none of which backs up any of their claims in the "Results" section. This website is a politically motivated misinformation site.

I didn't say it wasn't politically motivated, but they did provide links to all of the web sites that carried the official results of each event. And to links to the archived copies if the results sites too.

Select a sport, select a line item and click the reference [1] or [2] on the right hand side of the line.  I searched for some of the events independent of the links provided and came up with the same results.  Seems accurate.

I didn't look into the UN report (I probably should have), but I would assume MSN did before publishing this article.

The numbers are larger than what the original article suggested.

Any writer or organisation that calls transgender women men is anti-trans.

I saw the links to the event results, but no evidence that the person was trans. The site claims that the athlete's name is one thing, but the event results show a different name. It could be a different person. I looked up several athletes and could not find any evidence that they are transgender. It appears that the site is making assumptions based on appearance. I went to the site's X page, and it is clear that they have no interest in honest reporting of facts.

The numbers in question will never match 100% because the site lumps all cheaters into the same category. They list other examples besides transgender women, such as teams that use male athletes to boost their victory count, intersex athletes, and males who cheat because they can't compete with other males.

There is no accurate count of transgender people within the population. It is estimated that we make up less than 1%. There is no exact count of how many athletes there are in the world, so even trying to estimate 1% of that number will have varying results.

The site also uses the typical TERF arguments that transgender women are a threat to women in locker rooms, are "pretending" to be a girl, are homosexual, and that schools and athletic associations cater to their wants and not biological reality. All of these arguments are presented on the home page in the form of unsubstantiated anecdotes that hold no basis in fact.

The bottom line is that if they will exaggerate the truth, twist the facts, invent scenarios, and argue in favor of an agenda, can anything they say be accepted as truth? The most convincing lies will have just a hint of truth mixed in to confuse the audience. I don't believe anything posted on that website.

I agree, but I still don't think Teen Vogue wasn't being honest in their reporting.
