Transgender women have been banned from the female category of Ultimate Pool Group (UPG) after last week's landmark UK Supreme Court ruling that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.
The professional body for 8-ball pool said it has amended its eligibility rules so that participation in its women's events "are open only to biologically born women".
The decision comes after protests were held at the final of the Ultimate Pool Women's Pro Series Event earlier this month, which was competed between Harriet Haynes and Lucy Smith - two transgender women.
UPG said "recent developments have now made the position clear", and that it "welcomes the clarity" brought by the Supreme Court judgment.
It also said that a report it commissioned had concluded that 8-ball pool "was a gender affected sport and that in cue sports female players have unique disadvantages compared to male players and that transgender women retain male advantages".
The body said that an open category "will continue to be open to all regardless of sex".
UPG has now become the first sports body to amend its rules in the wake of last week's judgment by the Supreme Court.

In billiards?
The group should provide evidence of any woman who was injured or lost a tournament to a transgender player. What "male advantages"? They push a stick to hit a ball. This is lunacy.

I once tiddled a wink so hard it put my opponents eye out. The danger is real.

Thank you, Danielle. I wasn't sure. A lot of stuff is all over the place in the UK right now. The leader of the opposition, Kemi Badenoch (not far off Hitler in a dress) kind of told our PM he, quote, "Didn't have the balls to form his own view on gender". Which is kind of true. And as a British person I kind of hate it.
To give you some context... Our PM, Kier Starmer, before he got voted in as PM, he was very pro-trans people. The whole Labour party were. When that trans teen got stabbed by a bunch of idiot teens, he made a big deal of it. And even called out the previous prime minister when the mother of said trans teen was watching in the house of parliament. When the right wing PM made a nasty flippant joke about it.
And it feels like he's having a really hard time with this because it's just yahoo cowboys wanting dudes to be dudes and women not matter. I can't blame him for it. How can you go against a court ruling, even if it is just a bunch of other people stating their opinion?
It feels like a wave of stupidity taking over the whole world, and people having to decide whether they want to ride the lightning, or feel the thunder.
