Title: Hello everyone
Post by: Min on May 19, 2025, 07:45:55 PM
Post by: Min on May 19, 2025, 07:45:55 PM
I've come here through the gentle prodding of my therapist.
I'm older 54. Artist + Teacher
I'm messy, depressed and going through the process of self discovery. I always had inklings I'm a trans woman and I'm learning to embrace myself. I'm hoping that maybe I could share and listen.
My family tree is rife with dysfunction. I have a mountain of childhood trauma/ neglect. This in combination with my antisocial tendencies and persistent depression... makes my life complicated.
I don't know how much is too much so ill end it here.

Welcome to Susan's, Min! Finding a community of welcoming, helpful and accepting people was a huge step in my process of self-discovery and acceptance. You've taken the first brave step of introducing yourself. It all gets easier from here. I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Min, your family sounds like my family and the families of many other people here. Fantastic to have an artist and teacher here, it sounds like you have a lot to bring to Susan's. Lots of us have had a long delay between suspecting we were trans and accepting we were trans and plenty of us have experienced low mood, so there's a ton of empathy we have to share. At 54 you're actually one of the younger people we've had joining recently because we've had a run of folk joining who are in their sixties, I'm one of them! So welcome.

Hello Min, Welcome, you will find a very welcoming and warm group of people here. 😊. There is so much comfort just knowing that we are not alone here and can find support for so many different things that we are experiencing from just sharing on here with others. 🫂 Annaliese

Hi Min
My name is Sarah and I would also like to formally, Welcome you to Susan's Place!
I see that other members of Susan's have also welcomed you as well.
Thank you for trusting us with your story. Your life as an artist plus teacher will enrich our conversations here on Susan's. I was also a teacher in mathematics and computers. It takes courage to begin self discovery especially while carrying the weight of childhood hardship persistent depression and antisocial feelings. You have sensed you are a trans woman and are learning to embrace yourself, that bravery deserves respect.
You are in the right place to share and to listen. Many here have faced family dysfunction trauma and similar questions about identity. You will find understanding hearts ready to walk with you.
Share only what feels safe, take things one step at a time and remember that every small act of kindness toward yourself is progress. We are glad you are here. When you feel ready start a thread, ask a question or simply read and rest in the knowledge that you are not alone.
Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the other forums and threads. I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members.
In addition members of Susan's will more than likely will discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these issues as well.
Take care and all the best for the future.
Once again, Welcome to Susan's Place!
Best Wishes Always

Welcome, Min! I do messy and depressed with the best of them. I visited Susan's for the first time about three months ago and confess to still being a might bit messy, but not nearly as depressed.
