Title: Brilliant quote about AI
Post by: Devlyn on May 20, 2025, 11:57:25 AM
Y'all probably saw this long before I did, but I love this!

QuoteYou know what the biggest
problem with pushing all-things-
Al is? Wrong direction.
I want Al to do my laundry and
dishes so that I can do art and
writing, not for Al to do my art
and writing so that I can do my
laundry and dishes.

Lol. It's when your AI does art, writing, laundry AND dishes that you have to worry.

We're getting there. :P

I read on another post:

USE AI to help you. Ask an AI (like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude etc.) to:
"Rephrase these points in my own words."

Wait. What?  ???

Love the AI quotes! (Thanks Devlyn, Sephirah and Lori) Love to chat more, but I need to do dishes while AI finishes the novel I'm writing.

Writing meaningful AI prompts is a valuable skill worth developing.

AI will cause more jobs losses than job gains.

Sure, there will be jobs created with the construction of AI data centers.
There will be some jobs created related to making superhuman inferential thinking work better.

Employers will likely mask AI job related losses as part of "restructuring, get lean, or refocusing" rather than to likely identify job losses as directly and primarily caused by AI implementation.  Perhaps not.

We will see what happens.  I hope you all have good work for as long as you want it.  Study how AI can help you be even a more valuable employee.  Change is in the air, but it has been for years.

Be all you can be.

I'm not convinced this is true.

As an Electronics Technician and working in the construction trades, many jobs are not obvious. Just building a data center involves architects and engineers, construction contractors (like plumbing, electrical, carpenters, drywall, painters, etc.). And that is just to get the building up.

Then you will have engineers designing the equipment, technicians installing it, and programmers to get it working. Then, after it is installed, there will be building maintenance, janitorial, office staff, IT workers, telecommunications techs, and administration personnel (like managers, secretaries, human resources, payroll/accounting, and maybe warehouse or security staff) to keep it operational. And that is just one building.

The work that AI is currently doing is mostly just a glorified search engine on steroids. It is a computer that sorts data and regurgitates it on demand. Currently, there are no humans doing this work. It is all being done by computers. Yes, there are the IT workers, telecom techs, programmers, and administration personnel, but AI will still require the same or similar support staff.

Eventually, in the future, AI will be able to run and program itself. But someone will still need to do repairs, maintain the power grid, and suggest new features that may become needed. That will require human power. The next evolution will be robots controlled by AI to do that work. Then robots to build and repair the robots.

When that happens, watch for the ultimate warning sign. The phrase: "SkyNet is Genesis."
If I ever see a robot that looks like Arnold Swartzenegger, I am going to freak out!

It depends on the timeframe, occupation, locality, and economy, plus other significant things, that impact employment levels.

The absolute numbers of service and blue collar jobs are likely to be needed longer than many white collar, sales, and coding positions.
