Do you like to watch birds?
I do! It is amazing just watching them fly, walk, eat, swim, perch.
Sometimes they chirp.
Hummingbirds are very interesting.

I do. I used to have a Northern Flicker show up every spring. He'd stand in the aluminum gutter and drum away. At like 5AM.

I do. I'm lucky I have several nature reserves on bus routes and the coast river and woodland are all nearby.
Quite a wide variety of birds seen including goldfinch pied wagtail robin sparrowhawk kestrel buzzard many ducks waterfowl and waders. Seen a few rarities including bittern long eared owl and water rail

I turned heads when I was out hiking. It was two owls though.
All well. At least I did not scare them away!

Saw a beautiful Little Egret by a pond while on the bus last week. Lots of migrating geese heading to the marshes and the fields we haven't yet built on.
Redwings and Fieldfares here now, a sign winter is coming.

My wife is the real bird watcher in our family. She keeps a pair of binoculars on the kitchen counter so she can have a good look at them, and she feeds them in the winter.
I like to look at them, but I am not much good at identifying them, although I can tell the difference between a blue jay and a cardinal. (!)
One thing that I love to watch is the daily roosting migration of the crows. In winter, every evening just after sunset, all the crows for miles around fly over our house to a communal roost down the valley. They return every morning just before sunrise.
I saw them for the first time this season on October 1st: a small group of about a dozen crows. Within days, the group had grown to 200, and within a week 300. My wife counted them! Now, they are in full winter mode: thousands of crows, no exaggeration, streaming overhead in groups of a couple of dozen, one group after another, in a steady stream that lasts for half an hour. In nice weather, they might be 1000 feet up, but in wet weather with fog and low cloud, they might barely be above the treetops. I have seen where they roost: driving by that forest in the evening, the trees were heavy with roosting crows.
If I am outside when they fly over, I can't help but drop what I am doing and gaze up at them. (I know that, with seagulls, the rule is "Don't look up!", but the crows seem to be better-behaved.) It is a truly magnificent spectacle.

I was reading that there is one type of bird that can fly way high, at the heights of many commercial airplanes. Way more than 30,000 feet high. I have not seen one of those when flying though. Fortunately for flyers it is probably good that there are not many birds that fly that high.

I hadn't seen one since I was a kid growing up in the Mojave Desert. They are fun to watch.

Little egret seen by a pond again on way to Fleetwood. 60 years ago when I was a kid you'd never believe they'd be seen often in Lancashire.

Sometimes birds fly into windows and glass doors. Sad. Usually they will die unless it was a glancing blow. I gather they see their reflection and fly towards it.

We get these gray cranes with red heads. They're call sand hill cranes. They make that eerie sound you hear in the movies showing swamps. They walk around our pasture and yard. The sound can be shocking in the middle of the night

Never saw them growing up. Lovely birds. I saw my first great egret in Scotland last year.
We had positive sightings of white tailed eagles fishing off the coast a few weeks back. That would be awesome if they became a regular visitor.

If you find an empty parking space under a tree and come back to find your car a big mess from bird droppings, now you know why there was that empty parking space.

I love birds! I'm hoping to become an ornithologist one day. I'm still in college for it. If you don't already have it, you should get the app merlin! It's great for bird ID when your just starting out as well as keeping track of your life list!

Forgot about the lesser spotted, not seen one of those either!
Is Leighton Moss any good? I'm within an hour and a half of it give or take. About the same as a trip to Bempton Cliffs. Not done that before either but I want to rectify that this year. I normally go to local reserves, The Farnes and St Abbs Head. I love Gannets, Guilimots and Puffins so the sea cliffs are great.
I fancy trying a trip to Bass Rock sometime too.

Its excellent though its spread out over a large area and involves a lot of walking. Plenty hides with seats. Seen marsh harrier, bittern, water rail, bearded and long tail tits, spoon ills, little egrets, green and greater spotted woodpeckers, linnet, ducks and waders including beautiful avocet. Some of the birds I remember.
Well worth a visit, wear outdoor gear and boots, dont forget gloves as it can get chilly even in April. The cafe is good but rather expensive
