A shutdown of the federal government officially began this morning after Congress failed to pass a funding bill due to tension over healthcare subsidies provided by the Affordable Care Act.
As the hours ticked closer to this moment, trans Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) posted a video mocking her Republican colleagues for being nowhere to be found despite it being a critical time to continue negotiations.
In the video, McBride is seen wandering the Capitol, searching for Republicans under tables, on the train, behind curtains, and in a fireplace. She looked for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in a closet.
"They left a mess and left town," she tells the camera before showing herself riding alone on the Capitol's private train as overlay text says, "Waiting for Republicans to do their job."
She continues to search through vast empty rooms, running into Democratic colleagues along the way and asking if they have seen any members of the GOP (they all say no).
The shutdown is the result of Republicans refusing to negotiate with Democrats over undoing Medicaid cuts and renewing critical tax credits offered by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which are set to expire this year.

It is also important to note that this Administration is posting on government websites that the shutdown is the fault of the "Radical-Left" Democrats.
The truth is that the Republican Party has the majority in Congress (House and Senate), as well as the Presidency. They could pass anything if they wanted to.
The reason the Democrats are not cooperating is more than just Healthcare. The GOP has advanced various appropriations bills loaded with anti-LBGTQ language that would strip our civil rights. They are attempting to codify our removal from sports, denying healthcare, and so much more. Do not believe them when they claim they want to pass a "clean" bill. It isn't true.
