Democrats should kick the three transphobes who voted for MTG's bill out of the caucus

Three Democrats crossed party lines yesterday to vote for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-GA) bill to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth, and the party needs to kick them out. Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Vincente Gonzalez Jr (D-TX), and Don Davis (D-NC) all voted alongside 213 Republicans yesterday to pass Greene's anti-trans bill. If they had not voted for it, it would not have passed.
Yes, Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) is generally right that the party needs to be a "big tent" and allow some ideological diversity. But there are some lines that should not be crossed, and this is one of them.
The bill is extreme. It makes it a crime to provide safe and effective health care to trans youth (and only to trans youth! The same procedures for cis youth are exempted in Greene's bill), punishable with up to 10 years imprisonment. This includes the parents of trans kids, who are only trying to do what's best for their kids, who happen to be the target of a five-year moral panic that gripped the GOP so that they could get people to stop talking about the failures of the president's first term and his attempt to overthrow the federal government on January 6, 2021.
It's no coincidence that Greene introduced this bill and is also a major opponent of vaccines. She has no respect for scientists, which gives her license to believe whatever she wants, facts be damned. Who cares how many lives are lost, right? The Democratic Party should stay away from that arrogant and harmful mentality.

Lawmakers without medical experience should also consider the impact that such laws will have on providers. Medical professionals are licensed by the states and have membership in professional medical associations, which have their own rules and regulations governing medical practice. This sets up a difficult situation where providers want to help their patients but have a difficult time reconciling state laws, federal laws, and currently accepted guidelines.
The fact that they ignore professional medical practice and guidelines, pass laws that are focused on an agenda instead of protecting all citizens, speaks volumes to their incompetence in this area.

I agree with you completely, and the same statement can be applied to almost anything that the government regulates. Most legislators are lawyers by training, so they're technically incompetent in most fields.

Exactly.

Hi Everyone
The following needs to be added to your constitution and of course other countries.
Every person has a fundamental right to bodily autonomy. No law or action of the State shall deny, burden or interfere with an individual's decisions about their own body, including medical and reproductive care, made with informed consent. This right may be limited only where the State proves a compelling interest and uses the least restrictive means.
This amendment can be included either in the main constitution or in the bill of rights.
Best Wishes Always

We have a modified version of this. We call it the Second Amendment.
🤣

I actually disagree. As unfortunate as it may be, the long-term de-partisanizing of transgender issues will be infinitely better than winning on one single bill on party lines. If you allow some Democrats to step out of line, it allows some Republicans to as well. This will make it much more likely for more favorable changes to happen in the future. It's hard to tell that to younger trans people, I know it's easy to say when you're not 13 staring down male puberty, but I really do think this is a "lose the battle, win the war" situation.
I agree with Rep. McBride. Big tent is the answer for the future.
